Hi I'm Kate

Hi, my name is Kate and I'm finishing my senior year of high school before leaving for college out of state.

About Me

I live with my mom and 4 siblings (3 while my older sister is at college) and even though my parents are divorced I see my dad about twice a week and sometimes more. I'm the second oldest and sometimes it feels like I have a big responsibility to help my younger siblings out. I also think I double as their chaffeur once in a while. I really enjoy music. I got super into band in middle school and it just stuck. I was in marching band all through high school. I'm hoping to study music education next year. I play clarinet and piano and really only went back and learned piano so that I could play piano for church. I also love to read. Hand me anything fantasy or anything but dystopian. Hope is also a requirement if it is fiction and if its nonfiction it has to be really interesting and of my own free will. I'm only a high school student so I don't have a lot of work experience besides plenty of babysitting but I have done well in school and plan to continue on towards a bachelor's and master's degree.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into an LDS family so getting baptized when I was 8 seemed expected, but particularly as I have drawn closer to being 18 and out of the house I know that I want to live my life close to the gospel because of the happiness it brings into my life when I open myself up to spiritual opportunities and actively work to draw closer to Christ. The times I can say I was truly happy are times I was keeping the commandments, expressing gratitude in prayer, studying my scriptures, and participating in as well as attending church; not times when I was acting lazy or selfish. I know that as I draw closer to Christ his love reminds me of my purpose and helps me feel joy on this earth, and I bare my testimony of this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How I live my faith

Living my faith always goes back to simple things: I try to attend church regularly, read my scriptures everyday, and put a priority on daily prayer. I also work to learn and play hymns on the piano for church and at home. I know that music is powerful and it helps me draw closer to the gospel. I also work hard to live what I believe in the small things: acts of service, kindness, and gratitude. Though I struggle with always being an example I know that it will help me be more Christlike and that is worth the effort.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Kate
We believe that all those who have lived on this Earth regardless of when or where they live deserve an opportunity to accept the gospel of Jesus Christ and enter his Kingdom through baptism. Because of this we perform baptisms for the dead, where a man who has the proper priesthood authority baptizes a proxy who is the same gender as the deceased. This ordinance is part of why family history is so important to our church. Show more Show less
