Hi I'm Mercedes Nokyi Ng

I am very grateful that I grew up in Hong Kong. Currently, I am an Art aficionado. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Art and crafts have been an inseparable part of my life. I love to draw in pen and ink, watercolor, and acrylic. Not to mention that I love sketching with my finger with graphite powder! I enjoy giving out watercolor temples drawings to my family and friends. I am particularly fascinated with paper art. When I was sixteen, I decided to leave my city and to continue my study in Utah. I completed my high school junior and senior in American Fork. Currently, I have finished my Freshman year at the University of Utah and been preparing to serve a mission to Hawaii, Honolulu.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been raised in a Latter-day Saints family and have been taught about the gospel since an early age. But that's not reason why I want to be a Mormon. I never asked myself why I wanted to be a Mormon until I reached adolescent. I was having difficulties in finding my own testimony and faith in Jesus Christ. At that point, everything which I had been taught about the church sounded so ambiguous and distant to me. My first year study in Utah was absolutely a pain. I was all by myself and was facing countless challenges. It got to the point that I had no one to turn to but God, the omnipotent being whom I had learned about for all my life but was never certain about his existence. One night, I prayed and cried to God for help. I still remember the the overwhelming warmth and peace I received after that prayer. It was inexplicable yet real. The feeling was as if Jesus' arms were around me, saying, "Don't be afraid. You're are covered, for I have overcome the world and know exactly how you feel." From that moment on, I knew He was there and started searching the scriptures diligently. I read and studied the Book of Mormon for the first time in my life and had no doubt that it was the word of God translated by the prophet Joseph Smith. I gained a testimony that God never leaves us alone and he has given evidence to find out whether the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a true or not, which is through prayer and reading the Book of Mormon. I have felt joy, peace, and God's love through reading the Book of Mormon and would love to invite all of you to experience the same true happiness.

How I live my faith

I am part of my ward mission members. We go and visit people around the neighborhood who are either new to the area or whom we have not seen for a while. Our main duty is to be their friends and make them feel comfortable to attend church meetings or ward activities. Ultimately, we hope that through serving and caring for others, they can feel the Savior's love and have a desire to follow his examples.
