Hi I'm Kathryn Jean Stringham

I grew up in Utah, but I have now lived in Canada for 36 years! I am a wife, mother, grandmother and Temple Worker. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in San Francisco, California while my dad was in the army. Six weeks later, the Korean War ended and we moved back to Utah. From 1974-78, I went to BYU and received my BS Degree in Education. While at BYU, I lived with Canadian roommates and a friend of their's, Doug Stringham, came down from Canada to visit. We met and fell in love. We were married in the Manti Temple in December, 1978. We had a short 'honeymoon' on the way up to our home in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. My husband and his family lived in Edmonton and he was currently in Dental School at the University of Alberta. I have lived in Edmonton now for 37 years. I have missed my family in Utah, but every day has been worth it. I love Canada and the church and the people here! We have 4 wonderful children...3 boys and 1 girl. We have also been blessed with 8 grandchildren...6 granddaughters and 2 grandsons! All 8 of our grandchildren live within 2 hours of us, so we enjoy spending time with them, they are truly the joy of our lives!! My husband worked as a dentist for 34 years but had to retire last July, as we were recently called to serve in the Edmonton Alberta Temple Presidency. We love working and serving in the Temple! I enjoy family history research and recently completed ordinances for over 500 of my ancestors in the temple. Family history is one of my favorite hobbies, but I also love to blog, read, hike, travel, enjoy movies with my husband and spending time with my grand kids!.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love the Savior and He is the foundation and center of our belief! I have come to know and love him! I know our Heavenly Father has a plan for us here on the earth`. It is so wonderful to know of the plan of salvation, that we lived with him in a pre-mortal home, and that we have come here to prove ourselves worthy to live with him again for the eternities. I love the articles of faith, that so clearly state our beliefs. I can`t imagine my life without the principles of honesty, integrity, kindness, and so many other virtues that make this religion absolutely Christ-Like! My faith grows stronger each day as I try to live the teachings of the gospel. I love the Savior and I am so grateful for His loving Atonement, it means everything to me!

How I live my faith

Everyday there are two important things that I need to do. The first thing is to take the time to read, study and ponder the scriptures. EACH time I do this in a quiet and regular place I receive guidance, inspiration and personal insight. Number two is that I kneel down in quiet contemplative prayer and humbly thank my Heavenly Father for his many blessings and ask for the guidance of the Holy Ghost to help direct my day. I also ask for the gift of charity, that I may have a greater capacity to love others, and to be patient and kind! These two things are so important for me. I think of it like when I was taking piano lesson and I would have to learn the theory of music and then put it in practice, I feel the same thing about my scriptures and prayer...that it is the theory for the day and then I have to go and put in practice living my life as close to how the Savior did as I can that day! I have a firm testimony that as I do these 2 things at the `beginning` of my day, that my days are sweeter, my relationships are stronger, I am more quick to forgive, and I have greater insight into how I can serve the Savior by being `His Hands` . I have the opportunity to spend over 25 hours each week in our temple helping others become familiar with the temple, and helping them do work for their deceased ancestors. It is such a privilege for me to be able to serve our Savior in this capacity at this time in my life. My husband and I are able to do this work in the temple together and I can see that is is really strengthening our marriage. I have worked with the children and youth in the church and I know that as I have taught and loved them, that I have come to know that they are truly children of our Heavenly Father. Each one has special gifts and talents that are just for them. I know they will grow up and lead us well in righteousness!
