Hi I'm Austin

I grew up in Nevada. I am about to serve a mission in the Illinois Chicago West Mission. I love to play the cello. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am about to graduate high school and serve a 2 year mission. I am an athlete, wood worker, and a cellist. I participated in cross country, bowling, and swimming while I was in high school. I have built many pieces of furniture including, a paper towel holder, a coffee table, a night stand, and an entertainment center. I have also played the cello for 7 years! I love everything that I do and work hard to complete everything I put my mind to.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church, but don't let that fool you. I had to find out for myself if this church was the true church. I was taught all my life that the church was true, but as I got into my teenage years, I began to question this knowledge. I didn't know for myself if it was true. It wasn't until my brother and I went on a American and church history tour of all the historical American and church sites that I truly found out. One of the days, we were touring the Sacred Grove in New York. I decided that I wanted to do as Joseph Smith did and take the advice of James found in James 1:5 that reads,"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." I found a spot in the grove and began to offer up the thoughts of my heart. I asked God, in the name of Jesus Christ, if this was the true church on this Earth. After offering up my heart in prayer, I began to walk around the quite grove when I just felt a strong impression that this was the true church. There was no denying that this impression came from God. It is hard to even begin to describe the feeling that came over me. I felt peace and comforted and I knew at that moment that the church is true and that it is the same gospel that was on this Earth when Christ was here. I have grown to know that Joseph Smith was a modern-day prophet and that through him the church was restored. I know that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings and that we are loved by each of them. I know that Satan is real as will do everything in his power to keep us from progressing in life. I also know that we need to put our trust in our Savior Jesus Christ to overcome the temptations of the devil and to repent when necessary. I know that through Heavenly Father's plan, we can live with our families forever. I love this gospel, and I cannot deny the truth of it.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church meetings each week and by doing my best to apply the standards and morals of the church into my daily life. I also pray and study the scriptures on a daily basis. On occasion, I teach lessons to youth and adults during one of the meetings we have each Sunday. I also, each month, go visit a few families with my dad that we were assigned to visit and teach. We prepare a short message for them and check up on them to see how their family is doing. This is called home teaching, and is meant to help make families feel like they have a place within the ward/church. It is important as a member to not let anyone feel unwelcomed or unwanted when attending church.
