Hi I'm Whitney

I am Tsimshian native American. I love to paint. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of six children. I have three younger brothers. I love watching Lego Chima with my youngest brothers and reading to them every night. Me and my family like to plant a garden each year so we can eat healthier. I also have two two sisters. One of which is going to college with me right now. We both love to go roller skating on the weekend to take a break from our homework. Our younger sister misses us while we are at college because we are all very close. I am majoring in biology. I want to eventually research about illnesses and bacteria. I find those things very fascinating. I also like to go on hikes and I recently have developed a love for going shooting with my dad and brother. My dad is native American and we like to do native art as a family.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church. My family taught me to keep the commandments and to follow Jesus Christ's teachings. I have been very happy in my family as we have worked together, done good activities together and gone to church together. We always put the church first. We prayed and read our scriptures each morning. I know I have always been happy when I have lived the standards I was taught. In high school I was the only Mormon in my class. I was told my standards were restricting and that I wasn't having as much fun by keeping them. One standard we have is called the word of wisdom which means we cannot drink, smoke, use tobacco, use drugs or drink coffee or tea. On one occasion some girls asked me if I smoked and talked about sneaking out to do so. I told them I was not interested. It was awkward at the time but as a major in biology I have learned the effect smoking can have on the body and I am glad I did not give in even once. It was hard to have friends but I got true friends who respected my beliefs. I did not listen to others because I knew my standards kept me safe and made me happier than anything else. I have read the book of Mormon many times and I know it has brought me closer to my savior. I know it is a true book. I know there is a prophet today who is the lord's mouth piece. I also know this church teaches Jesus Christ's Gospel. I know Jesus Christ lives. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

How I live my faith

I try my best to befriend everyone I meet. I know this is what the Savior would do if he were here. I taught a group of young women for church. They were all very nice while I taught. It was great to get to know them and think about each week how I could teach them something from Jesus Christ's teachings. I know we were all able to strengthen ourselves each week going to church and sharing things from each other's lives to help us all be better people. It was also a great time to have friends and to share in our worries about school, about boys and be good friends. I have also served in the church as a young children's teacher. The children are so excited to learn and they have such a brightness about them. I love getting to know them and serving them in anyway I can. They are examples to me of the light of Christ and how we all are little children.
