Hi I'm Matthew

I play the harmonica. I enjoy sleeping late. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Right now I am studying at the local college to get a four-year degree. In my spare time I like to read, peruse the local thrift stores and yard sales to add to my collection of vinyl records, and then listen to said records. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and with my family, playing video games, and learning new things.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is God's true church on the Earth today. Being a Mormon has not been easy, but it has given me hope throughout my life and it has helped me to be a better person. It is so comforting to know that I can be with my family after this life, and that I can return to live with God, my Heavenly Father. One of the most comforting and beautiful things that The Gospel teaches is that God loves us, and I know that He does.

How I live my faith

I participate in my church by visiting families and individuals in my neighborhood with my partner, another neighbor. We visit them to help them learn about the gospel and to ask them if there is anything we can do to help them. I also try to do my best to encourage the youth in my neighborhood to be good people and to always keep their standards in mind.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

The Word of Wisdom is a section of revelation that God gave to The Prophet Joseph Smith 1833 which deals specifically with physical health and well-being. God has specifically commanded against the use of tobacco, alcohol, coffee, tea, and illegal drugs. This section also promotes the general effort we ought to be making to care for our bodies, which are gifts from God. One of the best and most important ways we should show our gratitude to God for our physical bodies is by taking care of them, and God, in His infinite Mercy, has given us a set of guidelines to help us to do so. Many people see the Word of Wisdom as a restricting set of commandments, but many Latter-Day Saints actually feel that are more free because they obey them. As with many of God's commandments, the Word of Wisdom comes with a promise if it is obeyed. God promises not only that He will bless those who obey the Word of Wisdom with good health, but also with wisdom, which is one of the truly Great gifts that God gives to His children. I have personally been blessed as I have tried my best to live the Word of Wisdom, and I believe that God will help all who earnestly strive to live it to do so. Show more Show less
