Hi I'm Evan

I study electrical engineering at BYU. I am serving as a missionary in the Denmark Copenhagen mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Utah, but I've spent most of my life in Kentucky. In high school, I participated in my school's concert and marching bands, Academic Team, service clubs (e.g., Beta), and track (hurdles), among other things. I enjoy playing the piano, French horn, mellophone, and violin. I study electrical engineering at Brigham Young University, but I am currently taking two years off to serve as a missionary in the Denmark Copenhagen mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I have personally felt the Holy Ghost witness to me that it is in fact Jesus Christ's church, restored to the earth again as part of our Heavenly Father's plan for our happiness. I grew this testimony by living the principles of the gospel until, here a little and there a little, it became the firm foundation of my faith that it is today. For example, I know that The Book of Mormon is true not because of one experience, but by way of many. As I changed from only reading the scriptures with my family to also reading them by myself, from only a few verses irregularly to many every day, and from focusing only on the words themselves to searching for answers to my questions, the Holy Ghost progressively witnessed the truth to me more powerfully, and now I know with certainty that The Book of Mormon is true scripture from God. I have had similar experiences with the other principles of the gospel, and by this process of faithfully experimenting upon the word have I learned for myself the veracity of the Church, and I also know that everyone in the world can come to this same knowledge from God by doing the same.

How I live my faith

The gospel of Jesus Christ provides us with a clear purpose in life -- to come unto Christ, our Redeemer, and to help others do the same -- along with the means by which we can accomplish that mission. These commandments are guidelines, and they show us the path by which everyone can obtain lasting happiness. I live by the Lord's standards not out of fear or obligation, but out of devotion to my loving Heavenly Father and my dear Savior, without whom I would not be the person and disciple I am today. I try my best to live the gospel of Jesus Christ by helping everyone I can, whether that's through manual service, an encouraging word of support, serving in my local congregation, or sharing the truths I have learned for myself with others to help them feel the joy and peace I have felt.
