Hi I'm Marina

I grew up in Utah. I'm going to serve a mission in Riverside, California beginning July 1, 2015.

About Me

Hi!! So a few things about me: I love to play the piano, make sugary treats, and read good books. I'm the oldest of five; I've got three brothers and one sister. I'm more of a cat person. I love the color purple and eating anything related to peanut butter. Getting my wisdom teeth out was the scariest thing I've ever done in my life. I enjoy watching Disney and super hero movies, going on drives, and spending days on the beach. I'm currently working as a bank teller, saving up money to serve my LDS mission!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family, so I didn't ever have a period of not knowing the gospel. I stay true to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because of several moments in my life when I have been inspired by the spirit. One of these happened in Seminary (that class at school). We were talking about Alma chapter 30 verse 44. "The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator." After reading this scripture, the Holy Ghost warmed my heart and I realized that EVERYTHING is proof there is a God. But it went beyond that for me, too. I started looking at the reasons the church is true, and it all just makes absolute sense to me. The gospel is perfect! There was another time when we were talking about being Mormons and why we think the church is true. There is so much light that comes from the gospel. We are a non-profit organization, our leaders don't get paid to lead us. In fact, most of them have left prosperous jobs in order to serve us. We do a lot of humanitarian work. We have a bunch of church services, like Family History, that enables people to learn more about their past. We donate all of the time. In our wards, we are always helping out people, whether it's by making some dinner for a woman who recently gave birth, helping a widow plant some flowers, or helping a young couple move heavy objects around their house, we are always lending a helping hand. How could a church that is so selfless and Christlike be bad to join. Granted, we all make mistakes and are sometimes not as Christlike as we should be. But the gospel is there to help people become better!

How I live my faith

Church is the best thing ever, I love the bond that it forms between people. I've served as a leader for the girls aged 12-18. There's also this thing called Seminary that the youth goes to during school, as a class. We go there to learn more about the gospel and the scriptures, and it's great because it's five days a week! One of the callings that I have loved is playing the piano in our meetings. There is a special spirit that comes when we sing songs from the Hymn book. I've also been the Ward Choir Pianist. Another thing I've helped with in my community is being on a youth organization that plans service activities, as well as group gatherings and other educational/spiritual activities.
