Hi I'm Mikaela Burkgren

I'm a snowboarder, and world traveler... on the path to happiness.

About Me

I am a born and raised New Yorker... I love volunteering around the world and just giving back. I love meeting new people and hearing about their passions. If I am not on the road then your next best place to look for me is on the mountain where I am either snowboarding, long-boarding, hiking, rock climbing, or horseback riding, and if you still can't find me check to see if my laptop and hammock is missing. Shy at first, but really an extrovert with a free spirit.

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was 16 years old. I am grateful for the missionaries that knocked on my door, even though I wasn't interested at first. They kept trying... I like to think that Heavenly Father sent the missionaries to my house that year because He knew I was slowly dying on the inside. I had just last my father to a life-long illness. I love my dad, he was my best friend. I was his little girl. To this day, I miss him and the bear hugs he use to give. ...but to answer, “Why am I Mormon?” It’s because Heavenly Father was there for me even when it felt like nobody else was. I’ll admit, it took me a year in a half to get baptized but true conversion was 2 years later when I was in a serious car accident. I should of died that day, but I survived. I know He is real, and I am loved by many. Heavenly Father has a plan for me, and life still isn't a ‘walk in the park.’ It's a hike, which is awesome because I love hiking and traveling and sharing my love with others. To this day, I seek to bring happiness into my day and into others. Without Him I don't know where I would be. All I know is that Heavenly Father brought me happiness. He gave me the opportunity to meet so many people who love and support me. I am a better person for knowing I am His daughter and I am proud to be a daughter of Heavenly Father and to serve Him.

How I live my faith

I've come to really love the gospel and to love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. That cared for me. I know I'm not perfect, and I have to repent everyday even for the little things. I'm getting better at living the gospel... CPR to keep my body alive and my spirit through church, prayer, and reading the scriptures. These 3 simple steps I have helped me grow closer to my Heavenly Father.
