Hi I'm Zach

I was born and raised in Las Vegas. I develop and teach court mandated education courses. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I studied sociology in school and statistically I'm a pretty typical American man. I got married in my 30's, have a wonderful wife, baby son and a dog. If I could have done anything as a child I would have picked being an NBA player. That dream ended early on but my love for playing and watching basketball didn't. My wife is a runner and I've tried to get into it so I can stay healthy and support her but the only real running I do is the once a week or so I make it out to the basketball court. I like to travel but definitely have to do it on a budget. When I graduated from college me and two friends took a trip across the United States. We picked up odd jobs along the way, stayed with people we knew or camp out in our car. I left with $200 in my pocket and made it home about 3 weeks later with a little money left. I'd probably seem pretty average if you met me on the street but I'm lucky enough to have a wife who at least pretends to think I'm cool.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because living the gospel of Jesus Christ makes me happy. For me it is really that simple. I have not found anything else in my life that fills me with the happiness that living the gospel does. I've learned to understand myself better through studying the scriptures. I've learned to be a better person by going to church and listening to the lessons and stories shared by others. Since I was young I've always had and asked a lot of questions. I haven't found all of the answers to specific questions, but I have found answers through the teachings of the prophets that have made not knowing everything ok. I know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me, I know that my time on this earth has a purpose and I know I have a Savior who died for me and made the impossible possible. I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) because it has taught me to be a better and happier person.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith everyday in how I interact with others. While some of the callings (assignments given to members of the church) can be time consuming and keep your busy schedule a little fuller I've never regretted going out and serving. Some of my callings have lead me to visit and help members living near me, others have given me the opportunity to serve in the community where I live. I've taught adults and little children during Sunday classes. I been given the opportunity to provide blessings for those who are sick or facing difficult challenges. Over my years of church membership I've probably set up and taken down thousands of chairs. It's probably not much of an exaggeration to say I've helped nearly 100 people move in or out of a home near where I was living. While those don't sound like exciting things I've met good friends and felt the Spirit of the Lord in doing many simple tasks for others.
