Hi I'm Shayla

I'm quirky & with my bumps, loved unconditionally by my Father in Heaven. I'm flawed & yet have unlimited potential. I am Mormon.

About Me

I am 19 years old and just finished my first year of college, up at BYU-Idaho. While up at school I turned in my mission papers. I received my mission call to serve in the Tallahassee, Florida mission, for 18 months. Whoo! I also just recently got endowed in the Bountiful, Utah temple. It's been an incredible year full of trials, growth and striving to come closer to Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised my whole life in Utah. I have a big family and it seems I have lived out my life in the exact "Mormon Culture" stereotype. :) Although that is how I have grown up, I am a Mormon because I have seen personally the light that comes from this gospel - that comes from the spirit being present. I have had the opportunity to experience very closely, the difference the spirit makes. Around the same time my older sister decided to turn in her mission papers, my oldest brother decided to leave the church. Two very distinct, and opposing, decisions were made in my family, from those two siblings. And though emotionally whiplashing, I have learned so much from watching (and judging) the decisions. As much happiness the first decision brought my sister, the extreme opposite came to the latter, my brother. Light, clarity and peace have been very present in my sister's path. An empty an unprofiting search for happiness, confusion and darkness have been the dominating aspects of my brother's. It has been hard to watch him suffer, and even harder to try and introduce the way of light to him, with the outcome being continually being thrown down. But through watching this experience at a young age, I saw clearly what the gospel did in someones life. I knew how I wanted my life to be - and I have strived to make it such. I am a Mormon because I have seen the light that comes from it, through watching this experience. I am a Mormon because as I have lived the counsel and direction of the gospel I have gained such genuine happiness! Such hope comes from this gospel, and such fulfillment comes from living it! I have strived to gain my own personal testimony and as I have done such, the path of my life has become clear and I have personally come to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. What a blessing that is! I am a Mormon, because I know it is the true restored gospel on the earth today. I love it with all my heart!

How I live my faith

My faith is a constant part of my life. I live it everyday! With the standards of the church and the counsel of the prophets, it really has based my life. Outside of church I strive to come closer to Christ everyday. I want to be more like him. I study the scriptures, listen to the words of the Prophets, and act upon the teachings and guidance I have received. I am continually growing, in this faith! In church, I serve in my calling. I was recently a leader in one of the groups for women my age. It was an amazing experience where I was able to serve others, get to know those around me and come to rely on Christ more! In addition I visit teach. Which is a calling where women visit each other and support one another regularly. I have loved the support and camaraderie I have felt. I feel so much love! This gospel is not Sunday worship only. It is meant to change your life continually! It is the foundation of my life and what I have come to rely on most. I show that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints everyday by living and acting on my faith. What a blessing this gospel is, in my life!
