Hi I'm Karen

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who loves spending time with family and friends. I am a retired English teacher who values reading and continuing to learn, and I enjoy trying new recipes, crocheting, and traveling. I have lived in Idaho for more than 40 years, but I still miss the verdant green of my native western Oregon. A few years ago my husband and companion, the love of my life, was released from the frustrations of Alzheimer’s, and I am blessed by the understanding of our eternal marriage. Fortunately, my life continues to be overflowing with the delight of being with our wonderful family. Watching our grandchildren and great-grandchildren find and cultivate their talents and develop into admirable citizens with integrity and commitment gives me tremendous joy and comfort. Realizing the significance and consequences of our relationships and appreciating how others have blessed my life increases my efforts to show love to those around me. Searching for and becoming aware of the needs of others is helping me to work outside the boundaries of my own life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon in part because a returned missionary didn’t hesitate to invite a stranger on a “date” to attend Sunday meetings at an LDS church. Also, a fabulous family took me in, taught and encouraged me through a year of questions and doubts. Their unceasing faith and friendship helped me make the commitment to enter the waters of baptism, and I have never regretted that choice. Through many trials, physical, emotional, and spiritual, I have constantly been strengthened by the knowledge that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me. The Gift of the Holy Ghost has helped me to know the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This has brought contentment and reassurance that help me to make choices that align with the pattern set by our Savior.

How I live my faith

I strive to accept every challenge and convert that into an opportunity to serve and to obey. I try to begin and end each day with prayer and scripture study. Although I continue to experience the difficulties of life, I believe the Atonement allows me to repent and grow in faith and works toward my goal of enduring to the end. I have been blessed to serve in many different organizations. Each calling has added to the joy of my “journey.” I am currently preparing to serve in the Scotland/Ireland Mission. Focusing my thoughts and energy on the principles and commandments that Christ taught encourages and motivates me to follow His example.
