Hi I'm Todd

I'm a doctor at Kadlec hospital in Richland, Washington, which is the town I grew up in as a youth, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of 4, and we adopted our youngest from Ethiopia. I'm a board-certified internal medicine physician and work as a hospitalist. I enjoy the outdoors including hiking, camping and boating. I like to snowboard and wakeboard. I'm trying to get into hunting including archery. I enjoy reading and would like to try writing some things, either fiction or nonfiction. I also enjoy cooking and trying food from other cultures.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that this church teaches true principles that came from God. I believe this because I've lived the principles, studied it out in my mind, put things to the test, and felt immense spiritual rewards and blessings as a result. This is a process that cycles ever stronger and stronger. I believe the teachings of the church are true, the Book of Mormon is the Word of God, Joseph Smith was truly a prophet in our day, and that God still speaks to man, including to me personally. My testimony of these truths was gained spiritually, which really can't be conveyed in a logical or reasoning manner, which cannot be foisted onto another person in order to "prove" or "argue" or "convince". It was gained through faith, which began simply as a desire to believe, and has grown stronger with time as I have nourished that desire by living the teachings and seeking God's will through prayer.

How I live my faith

I try to be active in home teaching. I believe home teaching is an inspired program of the church that encourages us to look after, think about, pray for, and serve other people around us that we may have otherwise brushed off. Home teaching is just as much a blessing to the home teachers as it is for those who are being visited or helped. It is one way that we can really try to become more Christ-like. As our children grow a little older, I realize how crucial it is to teach them correct principles in the home. We can't depend on Sunday school teachers, school teachers, coaches or friends to teach them what they need to know to be happy and healthy in life - it needs to be taught in the home. My wife and I are trying hard to foster a loving environment at home where the kids feel safe, loved, protected, and also feel that they can come to us and communicate any issue with us. The church has recommended weekly family home evening, as well as daily scripture study and family prayer, as some of the things we can do to help our family feel interconnected and unified.
