Hi I'm Vanessa

I grew in Oregon and joined the Air Force. I was baptized in 2008 and now have 4 children. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom of four spirited kids all under 5. We have a lot of fun cooking, reading and playing together. Although any visitors that stop by might think our house had a whirlwind come through it. Growing up I always wanted to be part of a tight knit family and I have come to find that the relationships I build with my friends and family are one the most important aspects of my life. I am taking college courses to learn more about web development. As a family we love to watch movies together and spend time listening to stories. Our favorite time of year is the Christmas season. We spend a lot of time just driving around looking at Christmas lights around our local areas. We love to the opportunity to celebrate every holiday and make traditions as a family. We have a big backyard that is a lot of fun in the summer, but a lot of work as well. I am trying to convince my husband that we need chickens but he has yet to agree on that.

Why I am a Mormon

When my husband and I were first married we spent time looking for the "right" church. We never found the right one after attending many local churches. His family was from Utah and I had a lot of misconceptions about Mormons. I never heard many good things about them. We decided to invite missionaries over to find out the truth for ourselves. When they came to our house they brought such a good feeling into our home. We never on planned on having them come a second time. But after our first visit, we wanted them to come back. That good feeling came into our home whenever they came. My husband baptized me and we were sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple. I am a Mormon because it gives me joy. I can't fully express all the ways that my life is constantly blessed from living the gospel of Jesus Christ. The most amazing thing about being a Mormon is knowing my family will be together forever. My children's lives are so much better because they have parents who are happy and love Jesus. They have an opportunity that I never had when I was younger. They have a chance to learn about Jesus and the plan he has for us so that their lives might be blessed. I have changed so much from that first visit from the missionaries. I have grown into a person that I never thought I could be. I know that I have much more learning and growing to do but I have hope. I have joy. As and outsider, I wondered if I could ever live with such restrictions on my life. How could I give up my coffee and sleeping all day on Sunday? I thought my life before was happy. I now realize that I didn't give anything up. I have only gained.

How I live my faith

We recently added our fourth child to the family but before he was born I really enjoyed working with children in our Sunday School. I love how honest younger children are and how they have such great their capacity to love Jesus. My family absolutely loves going to church on Sundays and I am enjoying that. They are lucky to have very caring Sunday school teachers who are excited about teaching. My family has recently started making nightly scripture reading a priority and it has been amazing! I love it because I get my daily scripture study in and it has brought my family closer together. My very youngest children don't seem to pay attention but I know they are learning and it is blessing my family. My oldest started pretending there is a video that goes along with what I read. He "plays" the video when I am done. It is very fun way for him to review what we read. When we are done we take turns saying our nightly prayers. Many times my tiny children pray for each other and the love that brings to our home is so great.
