Hi I'm Mike

I grew up in southern California. I worked in the natural resource field for my whole career and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am not a famous or well known person but I try to learn about things around me and how I can be a positive influence to others. I am passionate about man's stewardship responsibilities of caring for our natural resources. I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science Degree in biology. I retired from the California Department of Fish and Game as an Environmental Program Manager. My work resulted in living in many different parts of California, learning to appreciate and respect God's creations. My wife and I have four adult children and fourteen grandchildren. My wife and I enjoy the outdoors. My hobbies include woodworking, fishing, and viewing nature and its beauty.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was about 12 years old, LDS missionaries came to our home and taught my mother, sister, brother and me the gospel of Jesus Christ. They challenged me to read the Book of Mormon and to pray to Heavenly Father if it was true and if what they were teaching me was true. I did and not only did I feel a sense of peace but a small still voice said "yes, it is true". I was not truly active during my later teens, but after I got out of the Army I felt a strong desire and need to return to church. While dating my wife, I was present when she took the missionary lessons. We both felt Heavenly Father's Spirit and have had many spiritual experiences as we have served others. The knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the experiences I have had have brought great peace and happiness into my life. When my wife and I were sealed in the Lord's temple, I knew that families can be together forever. Honoring the covenants I have made with Heavenly Father, loving my wife and family, and finding ways to serve my fellow man brings has brought fulfillment and happiness into my life. I have a strong testimony of prayer. I have experienced and witnessed that God hears and answers prayer. The knowledge that I have a loving Heavenly Father and that His Son, Jesus Christ, has atoned for my sins and has enabled me to be resurrected is a source of wonderment and joy. It is true.

How I live my faith

I believe happiness comes from living the commandments of Jesus Christ. I am not a perfect person and this life abounds with challenges and trials, but if I will do my best and repent of my short comings, I find peace and a sense that Heavenly Father truly loves me. After many years of mortal life I recognize that I have gained knowledge, experience, and a sense of progress. My wife and I have served in many positions in church. I believe service is an eternal principle. I have worked with youth, have taught Sunday School classes. I have served as a Bishop and many other positions. I enjoy working with others and helping them to succeed. One of the enjoyable aspects of my employment was working with a variety of people and public organizations. I have served on a county Grand Jury and enjoyed working with members of my community. My wife and I served as Welfare Services Missionaries and enjoyed helping others to recognize their skills and how to effectively market them in the workplace. As an individual, as a husband andI have had many spiritual experiences and witnessed miracles in serving others.

What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Mike
My wife and I served in the Church's welfare services program helping others find employment, self-employment opportunities, and education opportunities. The purpose of the Church's program is to assist people in being self-reliant, to obtain self respect that comes from work, and to be able to help others. Show more Show less
