Hi I'm Bethany Walker

I love my family, Neuroscience, medicine, and the outdoors, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am working hard to get into medical school right now. I received my BS in Neuroscience at Brigham Young University and love learning about the brain. It's one of the most intricate and incredible organs. I am also passionate about helping people with rare diseases, especially one called Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP), but I care greatly about cancer research and more common conditions as well. I have met many great people while volunteering and working at various hospitals, BYU, with the International FOP Association, and many other organizations. The people that I have met through these experiences have really changed and shaped my perspective of the world and how much good each individual can do for one another. There are amazing people in this world!

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been one of the deepest blessings in my life. It has given me the strength to face challenges that otherwise I could not have faced alone. It helps strengthened my family and the love within it, our commitment to good moral values, and character traits such as honesty and integrity. The Book of Mormon is a book that has really changed me and helps me want to be better person and do good in the world. I know that this book is true and am grateful to be able to draw strength from it in my daily life. The principles and doctrines are stated so powerfully and with such clarity. I love the Bible as well. One of my favorite scriptures comes from Luke 10: 38-42. This has been a very powerful scripture in my life. It has constantly reminded me that we as people can get really busy doing even really good things- but that making time to learn of Jesus Christ, read our scriptures, and build our personal relationship with our Father in Heaven and his Son Jesus Christ are of most importance, that good part that cannot be taken away from us. I know the Jesus Christ lives and that He and our Heavenly Father love us and care for all aspects of our life. That families can be together forever, and that we came to this earth to learn and grow, obtain a mortal body, and prepare to live with our Father in Heaven again.

How I live my faith

The gospel has brought me happiness and consolation in times of pain and has helped me face the death of a loved one. I know with everything in me that I will see him again and am thankful for the good people in The Church of Jesus Christ who brought my family food and comfort during some tough times. The LDS missionaries have greatly served our family as well. I'm grateful for the caring within the church as well as how our members look out for people of many other faiths and walks of life. The LDS missionaries are incredible. I love teaching the Gospel Principles class in our young single adult branch. When you become a part of a branch or ward, you have the opportunity to hold callings and help learn and teach the gospel. We do a lot of service projects together and have some great times socializing and learning about Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and their plan for us.
