Hi I'm Elder Benjamin Butters

I'm currently serving as a Missionary. I was raised in China for 13 years. I'm an aspiring theater performer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently serving in the California Oakland/San Francisco Mission, speaking Mandarin Chinese. I just completed my Freshman year at Brigham Young University. I hope to study Dance or Education (I'm a little undecided.) I also have massive goals and dreams as a performer. I've been involved in the arts my entire life. I love to be onstage, performing for an audience. Nothing is better! I have worked several times at a local theater company in downtown Salt Lake City I love to be with my family, of which I am the second of six children. My parents are wonderful people, who've taught me to love everything and everyone. I love to travel and learn about people and culture. In fact, I have visited almost every continent! I used to live in Shanghai, China, where I grew up and gained this love of culture and love for the wonderful world that Heavenly Father has given us. China was an incredible experience in my life, one that I will treasure forever. It taught me that we are all children of God, no matter our ethnicity, language, or social status; He loves us all! I love life, and try to live it to the fullest!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love this church! The restored gospel is something very, very real. I am a Mormon because being apart of this church makes me happy. It brings me indescribable joy. I am a Mormon because I know that my Savior lives. He died for my sins, and wants all of us to return to live with Him. I am a Mormon because my Heavenly Father and Savior love me. I know that they know me by name, are aware of my struggles and sorrows, and want me to find joy. I am a Mormon because I have felt the Holy Ghost. I am a Mormon because I believe in the restoration of this church, and that Joseph Smith restored it through the divine authority and spirit of God. I am a Mormon because I know of the power of the Priesthood, and have seen it work miracles in the lives of my loved ones. I am a Mormon because I love to pray, and know that I can talk to my Heavenly Father about anything, and He will always listen. I am a Mormon because I was raised Mormon, and never plan on letting go of my life-long beliefs. I am a Mormon because I know that it will bring me the greatest joy, both in the future, and in the life to come. I am a Mormon because I believe that the restored gospel is true. I am proud to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by expressing myself through the performing arts. I love sharing my testimony through the things I love. It gives me an opportunity to share my love of the restored gospel in the best way I know how. I feel like I give a part of myself when I perform with the spirit. I am also serving a full time LDS mission for the church. I love it. It allows for me to study the gospel for the specific purpose of bringing others to a knowledge of the truth. I am an ordained Melchizedek Priesthood holder as well. I am so excited to serve my fellow men with the power we have to act in God's name to benefit His children. I have seen this great power work in the lives of so many of my colleagues and family, and I testify of its divine power and calling. The priesthood is very real. I try to live my faith through example, and strive to be an emissary for truth and righteousness. It isn't always easy, but its definitely worth it.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Elder Benjamin Butters
As a Missionary, I can tell you EXACTLY what you will hear. The purpose of Missionary Work is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through Faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. Missionaries testify of Christ. We will talk about Joseph Smith, and the means by which he assisted in restoring God's church to the earth. We teach about the Plan of Salvation, The Atonement, and the basic Principles, Ordinances and Commandments involved in this restored gospel. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Elder Benjamin Butters
No, that is a common misconception. LDS members worship our Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ. However, we do believe that through Joseph Smith, the truth of our Heavenly Father's gospel was restored to the Earth. We are grateful that Joseph Smith had the great faith to restore the church, but we do not worship him for that. Show more Show less
