Hi I'm Janet Scott Bird

I'm Mormon. I was raised in North eastern Canada. I am a mother to ten children and a MiMi to 40 grandchildren.

About Me

My life before children was in film and media. We had ten children in ten years. In forty years of marriage we now have 40 grandchildren. They call me MiMi. I opened a school for children 3 to 6 years old. This school was so I could be assured of the quality of teaching our children received in those early years. I am a strong supporter of the arts. I have been a writer, actress, dancer, and designer. I have included my children in all these activities but they have followed in the footsteps of their Dad and all work in finance and technology.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of parents who joined when I was a baby. They had a passion for living and teaching the gospel. I was in a home where scriptures and family prayer were done daily. Family home evening was a must but always fun and delicious. I developed my own testimony before the age of eight. I had many experiences with prayers being answer. I felt the love and warmth of my Savior many times as a child and never wanted to loose that feeling or love. I still feel like that 5 year old when I kneel to pray. I know my Savior and I know He knows me. I know my Father in Heaven and know He knows me. The scriptures and prayer keep me focused on the good in life.

How I live my faith

This scripture really changed my thinking and actions. "And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing before hand the things which I should do. Nevertheless I went forth. 1 Nephi 4: 6 I often felt over whelmed by the sheer numbers in our family circle and would fall to my knees wanting guidance and help. I often would receive impressions of what to do. But many times I knew not what to do. As I continued with my day, things would fall into place with impressions of who needed me or who needed help. I never felt like I knew what to do but just got to living the gospel and caring for my family and the spirit would open up to me with instruction. We don't need to know before hand what is needed. This concept helped me to develop patience and confidence in just moving to action. Just last week our 16 year old grandson got lost out in the desert. He had started on a bike trail to come to our house but never made it. We realized something must be wrong when the morning came and he was still not found. I fell to my knees that morning and prayed for help to find him along with all family members. I felt the need to get on my bike and start riding to look for him. I was leaving the garage pushing my bike when I felt the impression to use my car instead. So I put the bike away and got in my car. As I headed into town to look for him I felt another impression not to go to town that he was near. We live out in the desert and it is easy to get lost. I drove up and down each road in our area and within just ten minutes I found him. He was pretty upset as he had slept in the dirt when he realized he was lost the night before and was still disoriented when I found him. I didn't know where or what I was to do, but by following each impression as I got them I have had success many times as I follow this scripture. It was a big moment of light and confidence for me. You don't need to know it all. Just listen and act on that impression. God lives and is active in our lives.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Janet Scott Bird
The bible is holy scripture and a testimony of Jesus Christ as is the Book of Mormon a witness of Jesus Christ and His mission from a different people on a different continent. I use both in my daily to stay focused on who I am and where I am going. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Janet Scott Bird
My testimony is that God lives., that Jesus Christ is our elder brother and Savior. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ desire our happiness and success. Prayer will build a personal relationship with Heaven. You can feel their influence continually by living the commandments. My testimony is my humble witness but confident witness of Heavenly father and Jesus Christ. Always Show more Show less
