Hi I'm Alec

I'm an athlete. I love the outdoors. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I'm a normal 24-year old student in college studying electrical engineering. When I'm not studying I'm outside doing something. I rock climb, wakeboard, snowboard, ride dirt bikes, and just love being outdoors. I grew up wanting to play baseball in college, but when I got back from my mission to Brazil, I tore my rotator cuff and that was the end of my baseball career. On our random adventures in the outdoors, I take my camera with me and have a lot of fun taking pictures/videos.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it gives me peace. Life is meant to be enjoyed, but at the same time it is tough. Being a Mormon helps me understand the principles that get through my difficulties with hope, and help me to enjoy the things in life that God has blessed me with.

How I live my faith

When I got home from my mission I decided not to be who I was before. Not that I did anything bad, I just loved the way I felt on the mission and didn't want to loose that. This desire led me to apply at the MTC. This is the Missionary Training Center where we train the missionaries going out to all parts of the world. At the MTC I have taught missionaries learning Portuguese going mostly to Portugal, Brazil, or Mozambique. I also taught foreigners how to speak English. This job has helped me keep my scripture studies up and also has helped me to make sure I'm making good choices daily. I know that I can't help the missionary work go forward if I myself am not living righteously. Because of my love for Brazil from my mission, I have joined an organization that will do a big service project in Rio every year. We will help young students that are in need, and also rebuild their school.

What is the priesthood?

The priesthood is the authority to act in God's name. God has given men the Priesthood to bless his children. The Bible teaches about many Prophets that used the Priesthood to bless God's Children. An example would be Moses. He led the children of Egypt through the Red Sea on dry ground, not because of his own power, but because He was called of God to do God's will. God authorized him, and when he commanded the Red Sea to part, it was God's power working through him. The same principle exists today. Worthy men can be holders of this same priesthood. I have seen in my life the blessings of having this priesthood on the earth. I have been blessed with a father that holds this priesthood and has given me many blessings in my life of health, comfort, and guidance. When I left on my mission, I was able to receive this Priesthood and saw God's hand manifest in my life and the lives of others. Experiences happened that were far beyond what I could do on my own, and I know that God's power was working through me because of the Priesthood that I have been trusted with. Today we have a prophet with this priesthood as well. He leads this Church in the way that God would have it led. He seeks revelation from God and warns us of possible struggles ahead, as Noah warned the people of the flood, and helps give us directions to build our lives in the way that God would have us build them so we can one day return and live with him.
