Hi I'm Ben

I grew up in California, and am serving a mission in McAllen, Texas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the oldest child, and I have two sisters. I began playing the piano in fifth grade, then learned to play trumpet the next year. In my sophomore year of high school, I learned to play the organ. I like to read, and I read all kinds of things, but my favorite genre is probably Fantasy and Science-Fiction. I am currently serving a mission in Texas McAllen, Spanish-speaking, but will return to my university studies when I am done.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, but I can definitively say I had a testimony of my own after attending EFY, a spiritual youth camp. We spent the week focusing on the Savior, and the Holy Ghost was there in full force. I have read the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and know that they are truly inspired of God.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission, which allows me to share the joy that comes from living in harmony with Christ's teachings with others. Previous to my mission, I taught Sunday School every week after sacrament. I play the piano and organ for the youth and men in my area, and occasionally for the congregation as a whole. I am a consultant for family history, and I love researching info about my ancestors.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

We are not required to serve a full-time mission, but we are strongly encouraged to do so. There is a great amount of joy that comes from living in harmony with our Heavenly Father's will, and it would be selfish not to want to share that with others. However, sharing the Gospel can happen without going on a mission, through being a righteous example and being brave enough to talk to others about truths discovered through personal experience. I chose to serve a mission because of the love I have developed for the Gospel, and my desire to share it with others. Show more Show less
