Hi I'm Marissa

I'm an astronomer, I'm a geologist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently in the process of graduating college with degrees in Earth and Space Science Education and Astronomy. I plan to go to grad school to study planetary science. I love hiking, camping, watching movies, and sharing my passion of astronomy with everyone around me!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love having constant hope! No matter how hard life gets, I know that my Heavenly Father loves me more than I can comprehend, and he will always have my back. I know that through Jesus Christ, I can live with my Heavenly Father again, and I know that my family will live again with me for eternity! I know that my Heavenly Father has a plan for me, and even if it seems like I have no direction, if I have faith and keep moving forward, He will direct me to be the happiest I can be! A lot of people think that you can't be a scientist and truly believe in God. But I'm here to tell you that that is false! The more I learn about astronomy--about the physical laws that govern the universe--the more I realize that God, in his infinite knowledge and wisdom, created the universe through natural means, and that He works through natural laws. If knowledge is all we can take with us after this life, I want to learn as much as I can now so that I can be better prepared to learn in the life to come!

How I live my faith

I am a part-time online missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and I love answering questions about the gospel! So please, feel free to ask me anything! I participate in my ward's choir because I love singing beautiful music that brings me closer to God.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Marissa
The Earth, as a planet in the Solar System, happened to be created at the "Goldilocks zone" where the temperature was just right for liquid water to stay on its surface. Additionally, the size of the Earth as a body is not inconsequential: it is massive enough to still have a molten interior which drives many physical properties on the surface that are necessary for a dynamic, life-enriched planet. All of these things, plus many others, are too perfect for simple happenstance. And while the Earth was created through natural laws, it was PLANNED that way for us to live on its surface. It is a gift from our Heavenly Father! Show more Show less
