Hi I'm Lisa Gardner

I'm a missionary in northern Virginia. I love wildlife biology. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in northern Virginia. In other words, I am spending 18 months inviting people to come closer to Jesus Christ by helping them learn about His restored gospel. I am serving full-time from June 2015 to December 2016, but I'll continue to share the gospel throughout my life. Before my mission, I attended Snow College in Utah for a year and majored in wildlife biology. I love science, especially the science of animals. I hope to study reptiles as a career. I also love to sing in choirs, play the piano, build websites, take pictures (especially of nature!), and go hiking.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that Jesus Christ lives, and that this church is the fullness of His church on the earth. Many religions have truth, but none have the whole knowledge that we do. I know that both The Bible and The Book of Mormon are true, and that they complement each other in what they teach. I know that through the proper authority, a family can be together even after death. This is done in the temple, which I know is a holy place and a house of God. I know that the Church is led by a prophet who truly receives instruction from God, our loving Heavenly Father. He wants to guide us in our lives, and this is why we have a prophet on the earth. I know that we are all children of God, and that He desires all of us to accept His gospel and return to Him.

How I live my faith

I try my best to live like Jesus Christ. He lived His life serving others and helping them through their burdens and trials. He was selfless even when things were hard for Him. I look for ways to do the same, to help people with things that are hard for them. I try to look beyond myself when I'm having a rough day because someone could be having an even harder time. He loved all, no matter their past, their appearance, their profession, or their religious belief. I try to accept others, whether or not they believe what I do or hold the same standards that I do.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Lisa Gardner
The Book of Mormon is a record of people and prophets in the ancient Americas, much like the Bible is a record of the people and prophets in ancient Israel. It is not a version of the Bible, but a separate book that complements and clarifies the Bible. It starts with a prophet named Lehi and his family, who lived in Jerusalem around 600 BC. God commanded them to leave and lead them to the Americas. Lehi's family grew into two large civilizations, and were called the Nephites and the Lamanites. Prophets lead people in the Americas just as they did in Jerusalem, and God revealed to them the same truths that are written in the Bible. After His Resurrection, Jesus Christ Himself visited these people and taught His gospel, just as He had done in Judea. He established His church and called 12 to lead the people, just as He had done in Judea. And He blessed and healed thousands, just as He had done in Judea. Above all, the Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, our Savior and Redeemer. It teaches that He is our perfect example and our only hope to return to God. The records were passed down from prophet to prophet until the time of Mormon, who brought all the records together into one book. The book was named after him. God promises us that if we will read and pray about the Book of Mormon, we will come to know that it is true by the power of the Holy Ghost. Show more Show less
