Hi I'm Lisa Gauchay

I love to walk outside on a beautiful Fall day. I love sweats, and baking is one of my best coping skills. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born with some of my vertabra in my spine not completely formed, and some other problems at the base of my spine. Hard to explain, but because of this, I have a craniofacial problem, where my face is not quite straight. I like many, many people struggle with body image concerns. I had several big operations on my face, to attempt to straighten things out. It was moderately successful. In my professional life I work with cancer patients, in a therapy setting. Many of the people I work with struggle with body image concerns, due to hair loss, weight gain/weight loss, loss of a body part, changes in complexions, etc. Body Image is something most individuals struggle with, and I have found through my own struggles I have been able to help and understand other peoples very personal journey's through self esteem. I love to cook (mostly bake), and look through recipe books. I love music (mostly listening), I attempted learning many instrument, but was never very good at any of them. I love people, and spending time with friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it helps me a better disciple of Jesus Christ. It helps keeps me focused on the important things in life. The LDS church provides me a space to worship in a way that is meaningful, and makes a difference in every area of my life. My beliefs include having a firm faith in Jesus Christ, that through his atonement I can overcome death and sin. A few years ago, I lost my mom to cancer. I was very close to my mother, and watching her suffer and eventually die, was terribly painful for me. I have a firm knowledge that I will see my Mom again, and we will live together again. I believe that Jesus Christ has a perfect understanding of what we each go through, and can succor us perfectly. Through Christ, I have been able to find peace even through painful experience. I believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God, this book has helped me gain an accurate understanding of God our Father and Jesus Christ, and their plan for me here on the earth. The Bible has also played a vital part in strengthening my beliefs. I believe that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet, and that he restored the Church of Jesus Christ here on the earth today. I believe in continuing revelation from God, through our prophets. I believe that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet, and the leader of LDS church. I am proud to be a Mormon, I know that I on a path that will lead my home to my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

Some of the best examples I have had in my life are individuals who quietly go about doing good things. I try to live my faith by treating those around me with kindness and respect. Doing things daily that will connect me with a higher power such as pondering and praying. When I take care of my daily spiritual care, which usual includes some time in the Book of Mormon or Bible, it is easier for me to treat others in a way I can be proud of. I live my faith by trying to include others in activities and conversations. I always think of the Savior as loving and inclusive of everyone. I try to live my faith by seeking out those who are having a hard time, and figuring out a way to help. Sometimes this involves baking and sharing a treat, trying to be a good listener, including someone in my prayers, or being friendly and positive. Being involved in my community and local LDS ward are natural ways for me to serve, which keep me humble and busy. I currently work with the youth in our ward. They keep my on my toes, and helped me grow in love and understanding.

What is the Relief Society?

Lisa Gauchay
In talking with others through my work as a therapist, I have found that people are lonely. It can be hard to make friends, and find a community of people to help them through life. Relief Society can help individuals be a part of something important, and give us opportunity to serve and make friends. Relief Society purpose is to build charity and love, which can come by loving in serving others. Some of the best friends and examples I have in my life have come through my associations and service in Relief Society. I know this organization is inspired of God, and when your fully participate and love the others involved, it will change your life. Show more Show less
