Hi I'm Emily Smith

I'm a wife. I'm studying to be a high school drama teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've grown up and lived in the same place my entire life. I spent the last 5 years as a carer for my mother while studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Drama in English. I recently got married in the Sydney, Australia temple and am now making the new transitions of being a newly married. I've just started a Master of Teaching (Secondary) and hope to teach drama. I love spending time with my friends and family. Although I can be initially resistant to it, I also love active recreational activities like hiking (of the mild manner... no bungee jumping for me!). I love reading and learning new things - I consider myself a 'seeker of knowledge'. And since becoming married I've found joy in creating new concoctions for dinner each night, learning how to use my spices to create different flavours. The current plan is to married life, keep studying and soon family life.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members of the church and so I was brought up with its teachings. When I turned 17 my family went through a pretty rough time and I got to a place where I had to decide whether I was doing it for my parents or if it was something that I really wanted. All I ever wanted was to be happy, to get married in the temple and have a family. I realised that I could only have this by being a member of the church and living the gospel. Since that time I have felt so much joy in living the gospel. It gives me so much purpose and direction. It doesn't mean that hard times are gone and there's never any sadness, but it means I can understand why they need to be experienced. I love knowing that I can turn to my Heavenly Father in prayer for comfort and strength during those hard times and find peace in knowing its for a reason that will help me to grow. The gospel of Jesus Christ offers a life that is whole and rewarding. It is not always easy, but it is very worthwhile. This is something that I am coming to better understand with each passing trial. I have a testimony of it's truthfulness. It will bring you peace and joy. You just have to let Him in.

How I live my faith

On a personal basis I've found a lot of growth and strength in daily prayer and studying the scriptures, attending church meetings and activities. I've recently been given a role in serving the women within the church, which is rather exciting for me. Up until now I'd only had the chance to work with the youth and the young children. In my role I've gotten to visit with other women within the church, prepare and deliver meals to families and help keep the other women I serve with all organised. One of my most reason joys in service has been finding small ways to reach out to the sisters by either sending a email or writing a letter if I notice a sister hasn't made it to church or feel that she might need a pick me up.
