Hi I'm Shalyn

I love the mountains, I love to fish, I love Christ, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am one of those people that thrive in the sunshine. Any chance I have to be outdoors I take. The mountains call me and I must go! I love to fish and even when I’m not catching anything, I love to marvel at the beauty and peace around me. Unfortunately, I can’t always be outside and like all people I must work. Luckily for me, I have one of the best jobs in the world! I work as a pediatric medical assistant and am perfecting my skills in throat swabbing and shot giving. I love to see wounds, freak accidents and medical anomalies. I love my job because I love working with people, but I know I am capable of more. I am super pumped because I just got accepted to nursing school! I’m ready to learn more so I can do more good and help more people. I spent 18 months of my life representing my Savior Jesus Christ on a mission in Riverside California. This was the best 18 months of my life. I worked so hard and sweat so much and it was worth it. This mission changed my life for good. I thought I knew myself and my Savior before my mission but, I was wrong. It was here in the California desert that I learned that I could do hard things with the help of my Savior. It was here that I began my journey to discover and become who it is that Christ created me to be.

Why I am a Mormon

I’m a Mormon because I read the Book of Mormon and prayed about it. Sure it sounds cliché but it’s the truth. I was raised a Mormon but when I was a freshman in high school my friend and I had a contest to see who could read the Book of Mormon the fastest. This was pivotal in my life because it established a habit. Now I don’t read the Book of Mormon because I am competitive, I read it because it helps me feel peace. This book helps me control my anger and find hope in life. As I have read this book over the years I have come to know my Savior and to realize His love for me. I am a Mormon because when I live the teachings taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I am happier, have purpose and direction, and am able to do more good in the world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by living my life. I read the scriptures every day so that when people ask me what I believe, I am prepared to answer. My goal is not to force my beliefs on others, but my friends will tell you I’m not shy about what I believe. Just as I share what I believe with others, I ask others about their beliefs too. Though I know at times I fail, I strive to live in such a way that others can feel the love of God through my words and action. I try to look for little ways to let people know they are valuable and important. I live my faith by acting upon the truths I have discovered for myself.
