Hi I'm Ian

I immigrated to Australia when I was 13. I grew up in Queensland. I was a registered nurse. I am a Mormon

About Me

Before I was married I worked in mineral exploration and on oil rigs. I loved traveling and drove a Kombi van with some friends from England to Kathmandu. My wife and I have two boys and two girls and six grandchildren. I was a registered nurse for the last thirty five years and have been retired for a couple of years now. Last year I built a motorhome out of an old school bus which we are going to live in as we serve a mission for the church in NSW.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I joined the Church I was a "Mud Logger" (love that title) working on oil rigs in the Java Sea. On one of my weeks off some missionaries visited me and sold me a Book of Mormon for $1.00 and basically invited me to read it and pray about it to know if it was true. Six months later and about three quarters way through reading the book, whilst lying in bed on the oil rig, I had a spiritual revelation that what I was reading was absolutely true and that Jesus Christ truly is our Saviour and redeemer. At the time I was reading 3 Nephi ch.12 where Jesus was teaching the Nephites the similar discourse as his Sermon on the Mount, found in the New Testament. Later that year Cyclone Tracy hit Darwin; we were evacuated to Perth, I decided to quit the rigs, go home to Brisbane, get baptised, and get a job where I could be helping people one on one,(hence, nursing) and I have not looked back ever since. I have loved serving in the church and bringing my family up in the Gospel. I have been a member of the Church for about forty years and gained a lot of knowledge from studying the scriptures and reading from our prophets messages and sermons to us. I have an absolute testimony that this Church is God's only true church on the earth with all the teachings that He wants us to know at this time that if adhered to will enable us to return and live with Him again after the Resurrection.

How I live my faith

At age 29 I was baptised in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I have loved serving in various callings in the church, including the scout program for 5 years and I had a five year stint as a Bishop. Last year I thoroughly enjoyed teaching our youth in the Seminary class every school morning. The theme for the year was the Book of Mormon. I enjoy doing home maintenance projects and fixing cars, and since retirement, I love helping my neighbours with their home building and car problems.
