Hi I'm Thomas Heinz

I grew up in Alaska; I'm a student at BYU, and I work part time as a Videographer and Editor, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Thomas, and my dad is retired Air Force so I don't really know where I'm from. I've lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Idaho, Utah, and Alaska. I like to consider myself Alaskan though. I love the outdoors, primarily hiking, fishing, and camping. I'm a Freshman at BYU who's still considering many majors. I think I've narrowed down my list though to Communications with an Advertising emphasis, or Marketing. I also really enjoy watching, learning, playing, and most recently filming sports. I work part time as a videographer and editor for the athletics department. I also love to ballroom dance, not that I'm very good, but it's still fun!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it, I live it and I love it! Although I've been raised in the church, I am a mormon because I chose to be. In eighth grade I was really down in the dumps. My family had moved (again) so I was in a new school without anybody I knew. To make matters worse my dad was deployed (again) so my mom and I were living in a new place by ourselves and it was challenging. To make a long story short, there were some kids that were always happy, and just having fun. Then due to some positive peer pressure, I got rid of many old habits and replaced them with new ones. My new friends taught me that the Gospel is the true path to happiness, and that together we can help each other become more firm in the faith. I am a Mormon because I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for me, and the reason I'm here is to prepare to meet Him.

How I live my faith

One of the ways I live my faith is through serving others, and being friendly. Since I grew up in different places, it was always important for me to find friends so that they can help me excel and achieve my goals. In my wards I have helped plan activities for other youth so that they may feel more included, and part of a group. Among other things, I have helped plan dances, and weeklong camping trips. I also live my faith in making sure that I am "firm in the faith." Meaning that I do all the little things such as read my scriptures and pray daily, attend church services, and encourage others to do the same. I know I can do much, much more, and I know that as I put more effort into serving the Lord that I will be blessed.
