Hi I'm Laura

I love to read, walk my dogs, spend time with my family, and I'm happy to be a Mormon!

About Me

I have a degree in Spanish and English teaching and have taught in both junior high and high school. I have three children and have put my professional teaching on hold to be a stay at home mom. I have loved both helping my children to learn and volunteering at their various schools through the years. I continue to enjoy learning, reading, and hiking.

Why I am a Mormon

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gives me direction, hope, and comfort. I have prayed about it and know it's true, so I can with confidence allow it to guide my life. Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles states, “I am grateful to know that there are two methods of gaining knowledge—the scientific method and the spiritual method, which begins with faith in God and relies on scriptures, inspired teaching, and personal revelation. There is no ultimate conflict between knowledge gained by these different methods because God, our omnipotent Eternal Father, knows all truth and beckons us to learn by them both. “ “Stand as Witnesses of God,” Ensign, March 2015, 30. Many times in my life I have experienced this personal revelation. I have felt the Holy Ghost confirm to me that I have a Heavenly Father who knows and loves me. He wants to and has helped me through challenges in my life. He has provided a Savior, His Only Begotten Son to atone for my sins and to make resurrection and eternal life a possibility for me. These are blessings available to all of His children. I hope that through faith, study, and inspiration we can all recognize and know that God lives, loves us and has provided a way for us to again live in His presence.

How I live my faith

My goal as a daughter of God is to be helpful. I feel that if I am serving others I am doing what the Savior would have me do; I want to do what the Savior himself would do. When my children were young most of my helping was done in my own home, though I also supervised the children's program of our congregation for several years. I loved teaching the kids that they have a Heavenly Father and Savior who know them by name and love them. Over the years I have also worked in the women's organization and with the young women ages 12-18. Now on Sundays during the class portion of our services I help care for the children ages 18 months to 3 years. I realize as I write this that the details and teaching process may vary depending on age, but the subject matter is the same. We all want to know who we are, where we came from, and where we are going. I love helping others know that there is a plan.

What is the Relief Society?

Laura
The Relief Society is an organization for the women of the church. Classes and meetings are held on Sundays and at other times to learn and discuss doctrine, increase spirituality, learn helpful skills that will strengthen families and homes, socialize, and help others. Show more Show less
