Hi I'm Sara Scarlett

I'm a bibliophile, college student, lover of cheese, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I call the smallish town of Mt. Holly, North Carolina home. I am the middle child after my older sister Allison and before my younger brother Johnny. I come from a big family and wouldn't have it any other way. Out of the 22 grand-kids (on my moms side), only six of us are girls, so that made growing up pretty interesting. I love my big crazy family. I am a major book worm and have spent way too many nights reading books from cover-to-cover. My favorite movies are any movie that you can sing to (HSM2 and The Phantom of the Opera are the best) or any movie with Johnny Depp, but I would never turn down a good romantic comedy. I work for the YMCA as an after school counselor (during the school year) and a summer camp counselor (during the summer, obviously) and I love all those little crazy ankle biters. So i'm really just a regular girl who likes to sing in the shower way too loud, occasionally bathe a stray kitten, and eat lots of grilled cheese sandwiches.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up I was always provided for spiritually and temporally. As a youth I thought that I had my own testimony and was doing well in the church. When i was about 15 my parents separated and I realized that I had been relying on their testimonies and had yet to develop my own. I didn't take the split well and had a lot of questions about the church. For a while I went through the motions but was in a spiritual rut. Spiritually, I was stuck between a rock and a hard place for some time and felt alone in what I was going through. One Sunday in young women one of the leader taught a lesson on the Atonement of Christ. I remember feeling like I had been sucker punched by the spirit. I realized that I was not alone and had never been alone. Christ felt my pain and knew exactly what I was going through. i had a Heavenly Father that loved and missed me. His hand had been extended to me the whole time, waiting for me to reach out and grab it. That day I did a complete 180. I picked my scriptures back up and spent much time on my knees praying to my Heavenly Father. I found answers to my questions and felt my Heavenly Fathers loving embrace once again. Because of this experience I was put on the path of becoming truly converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am a Mormon because I know without a shadow of a doubt that this church is true and the Book of Mormon is the word of God and we receive direct revelation from Heavenly Father through living prophets. I am a Mormon because this Gospel makes me a better person and I am able to become like Christ. I am a Mormon because through this Gospel I am able to live with my family again. I am a Mormon because I am able to return and live with my Heavenly Father in exaltation.

How I live my faith

I am currently a ward missionary and gospel principles teacher in my ward. I love both my callings so much because I am always learning something new between going out with the missionaries and preparing my lessons each week. I have recently received my mission call and will be reporting to the Peru MTC on June 30th and will be serving in the Lima Central Mission. I am so excited to embark on my journey to serve and teach the people in Peru and to further the work of the Lord.
