Hi I'm Terry Clendening

I claim southern California as the home of my youth. Today rural Utah is home. How sweet it is.

About Me

We have five children and so far seven grandchildren. I enjoy photograph and some day will actually be talented. I grew up in a suburb of Southern California but have ended up in a rural community. These days it's nice to go into town but I would not want to live in one. While serving in the US Army I spent 18 months in Vietnam as crew chief of a medivac helicopter. Some of the guys have hard memories but I was lucky to miss those hard times. The GI bill helped with a four year degree which has always been a benefit to me but I've made my way in life as a technician in an oil refinery. I believe if I had to do it again, I'd do the same thing.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though I was enrolled in a parochial school for a few years, we did not attend any church. I was fortunate though, my father had respectful feelings for " the good Lord" and so I was raised withing the moral fiber that has given our county the strong character that has made it the good land that it is. So, as a young man I did not attend church. When I met a Latter-Day Saint who was a delight to be with, I found myself attending the meetings. Then because of what I felt in those meetings I began to listen to the missionaries. I suppose it was the tone of my questions that made the missionaries think that I did not believe what they were teaching but the truth was that the more I heard the doctrine the more I began to know that the doctrine was true. I just had trouble believing that there were modern prophets. Finally though because the Spirit had impressed so strongly upon me that the doctrine is true I knew that the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith who taught the doctrine also had to be true. At this point I also knew that God is and that He loves us. And some where in the years since then I have come to understand that everything Heavenly Father teaches us through his prophets will make us happy. And that he is not going to force us to follow His counsel. So, if we will not listen to his counsel then hopefully someday we will learn that His way is the best way and we will turn to him for guidance. I'm a Mormon because this is His Church and I love it.

How I live my faith

I used to snow ski and some day we will teach the grandchildren to ski but for now we are preparing to spent two years in Ukraine working with seminary and institute students. We are preparing for this by learning the local language. What a thrill it is to be given the opportunity to work in an area where the Church is so young and history is in the making. It is a privilege and honor to be asked to do this.
