Hi I'm Carolyn

I'm a Deaf. I grew up with hearing aids, had speech therapy while growing up. I got a cochlear implant 9 years ago. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read books. That is my favorite kind of media. I grew up in the days before closed captioning on television. When my best friend in high school brought her scriptures to school, I understood the Bible but I asked her, "What is that (other) book you have?" She explained it was the Book of Mormon. She told me what it was about and that it supported the Bible. I asked her if I could read and borrow it. She gave me my own copy. Later I joined the church. I am now married and raising 3 daughters. They love to read too. I read them all their early childhood books, now my husband reads them novels at night. We also read the scriptures together.

Why I am a Mormon

I have read and continue to love reading the Book of Mormon since my high school days. It is another testament of Jesus Christ just like the Bible. It's teachings have helped me understand Jesus Christ's love for us and his sacrifice for us. I feel like I finally understand Heavenly Father's plan for me and a way for my family to be together forever. I was baptized in my senior year of high school. That day I felt the Holy Spirit so strongly come into my life. Today I try very hard to make good choices so I can have that Spirit with me all the time to help me be cheerful and be positive. I try hard to be involved in church and to serve others and help my daughters know they have personal worth and value. I love my husband and I am grateful to know our marriage and family can last forever.

How I live my faith

I believe very strongly in families and extended family. We love family reunions and holidays together. We love camping and watching movies together. I also enjoy working on genealogy (family history). My daughters love seeing family photos in albums or on the computer. I believe in education and I volunteer at the elementary school once a week for 1 to 2 hours. I have been doing this for 9 years. The girls feel motivated to do better when they know I have helped in some way. One great grandmother, two grandmas, two aunts, my mom and two of my sister's are teachers or have taught school. I served a mission for the church among deaf people using American sign language. After my mission, I worked with developmentally disabled adults and occasionally helped them use sign language to communicate. Today most of my teaching is done in the home or at church.
