Hi I'm Dakota Delano

I grew up in California. I am going on a mission to Angola. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Dakota, I am 18 and I am Mormon. I live in California and am currently a senior in high school. I will be graduating at the end of May and have been accepted to go to college at Brigham Young University Idaho. On the weekends I volunteer as a Blacksmith, working in the smithy at the local living history park. I love to dance and whenever possible and go to a folk dance class on Thursdays. Though I love to swing dancing and ballroom dancing the most. I work part time at a Kinetico Quality Water dealership, and have worked there sense my freshman year in high school. It's a jack-of-all trades kind of job and I manage the store front, handle scheduling, and have learned a lot about plumbing and water filtration. I am the oldest of six kids, three boys and three girls, and still live at home. I want to go to school to become an Oral Surgeon and I am starting down that career path.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raise in this church by my mother who is a member. I was baptized and became a member on my eighth birthday. I have since read the Book of Mormon several times and prayed for its truthfulness. I have become accustom to prayer and fasting and over time have stopped leaning on my mothers faith and have built my own faith. I can feel it on the inside that what I am doing and this church is the true church and that God wants me to be part of it. I want to be happy both in this life and in the life to come and I know that true joy comes from following this gospel, I've felt it and enjoyed the blessings of the truthfulness of it. I want to continue to be the best I can be so that I have go into the life after this one knowing that I did what I could and that I can be with my eternal family again.

How I live my faith

I go to church every Sunday, and this year our congregation meets at 1 pm in our building as we share it with two other congregations of our faith. After church I typically go to a Mission prep class at 6:30 to prepare for my Mission. I am going on a mission to Angola, a country in Africa and will speak Portuguese while there. I will me going there for two years starting on June 10th of this year. I am deferring my college acceptance so that I can start school when I com back. Every night I try to read my scriptures study topics that will help me personally or that I've had questions on. On Monday my mom gets us together for family home evening to learn church doctrine as a family. It's sometimes hectic but we try to do it every week. I have a calling in church to be the ward youth family historian, and what that means is that I am to help others learn and do family history. I am an eagle scout and now act as an assistant scout master to help my brother and the other boys in our ward become Eagle Scouts. Every morning on the weekdays that school is in session wake up early and go to seminary. I have gone to seminary, first as a visitor with a friend, then regularly starting my freshman year of high school. It's an hour in the morning where I can be taught and can learn gospel principles.
