Hi I'm Andrew

I sing, conduct choirs, compose and arrange music, build websites, and love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I've loved music my whole life. I grew up listening to my parents records and CDs of great works by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and many other fantastic composers. My mother, a retired opera singer, taught me how to sing from a young age. I fell in love with choir music while attending high school and university. I also developed a deep appreciation for other cultures by studying international folk dance in high school and college. I currently conduct a community choir and teach people how to sing. I've also loved technology much of my life. My father was a research and development engineer for Hewlett Packard. I learned, from hands-on experience, how to build, program, and occasionally break computers. I've worked for large and small software companies on projects ranging from test automation, robotic control, and web development. I have an amazing friend and wife who brings joy into my life and with whom I'm helping raise five beautiful, rambunctious children.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a teenager, I struggled to feel like my life was worth while. I felt like I had made mistakes for which God would be displeased with me. I experienced great sorrow and depression because I didn't think God would even want to have anything to do with me. One day, as I was cleaning out my car, I found a copy of the Book of Mormon. It had not been treated well and looked rather mangled. I picked it up and the book opened to the account of a prophet by the name of Alma and I started to read. Alma, who was named after his father, had grown up surrounded by the Gospel of Christ but had not accepted it. In fact, Alma actively persecuted people who believed in Christ and did everything he could to persuade people that Christianity was foolishness. Alma's father, a man of great faith, pleaded with God to help his son and that prayer was answered. Alma changed his life. He pleaded with to God for mercy through Christ and was cleansed. But what struck me on that occasion was how Alma not only came to Christ but how he became a valiant missionary for Christ. Like Paul in the New Testament, Alma spent the rest of his days sharing the Gospel of Christ. Alma's experience gave me the hope I needed to believe that I could change through the power of Christ's atonement. As I read, I felt the peace that comes from God touch my heart and mind with the sweet assurance that he cared and that my savior, Jesus Christ, was there to help me change. I know that Jesus Christ is the savior of all mankind; that he did indeed suffer for my sins and the sins of all people; that he died, was resurrected, and overcame both sin and death so that all may come to live with him in heaven. I have read the scriptures, including the Book of Mormon. I have prayed to know if they are the words of God and have felt the witness of his spirit touch my heart and mind to let me know they are true. Because of a crumpled up Book of Mormon, I found Christ.

How I live my faith

I've had the opportunity to serve members of my church in a lot of different ways. I've taught classes on the scriptures, I've helped people learn how to research their family history, I've organized music for worship services, I've taught young men how to prepare to be future leaders through the Boy Scouts of America, but my favorite way to serve is to help people learn how to sing in a choir. Perhaps you, like I, have struggled to express in mere words the depth of love you feel for God for the miracles and blessings he puts in your life. I've found that those words of gratitude and praise, when coupled with beautiful music, allow me to open my heart more fully and share more deeply what I feel. This is why I love teaching people how to sing, and especially how to sing songs of praise to God.
