Hi I'm Carl Nielson

I grew up in Utah and married my high school sweetheart. I am a retired educator. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love the out doors. Hiking, rafting, riding horses and fishing with friends or family are some of my favorite activities. I have a masters degree from Brigham Young University and have taught high school, have been a counselor and also a school administrator. I coached football, tennis and track while working in the secondary schools. I have a wonderful wife four children and seven grand children. We currently have a one year old grand daughter with leukemia that we pray for constantly. She is a precious little spirit and is an example to all of us.

Why I am a Mormon

I am the great grand child of early Mormon converts. They sacrificed so much to join this church and immigrate from Denmark and England to join the saints here in Utah. Their example of hard work, faith and devotion and the example of kind and loving parents was where my testimony began. As I grew, married and raised my own family, I came to know for my self that the principles of this Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches are true. The Book of Mormon is one of the primary sources of this testimony. One cannot prayerfully read it without knowing and feeling of it's power. Joseph Smith said, "It will bring us closer to God than any other book." I know this to be true. In the Book of Mormon an ancient prophet, Alma, tells others to "Experiment on the Word." (Book of Mormon Alma Chapter 32). I would encourage others to plant this seed of faith in their heart, nourish it through prayer, study and action and watch what sprouts and grows. I have endeavored to nourish this seed of faith all my life. I continue to nourish it. In today's troubled world, I find peace from my Savior Jesus Christ and his Gospel Plan. The fruit of this wonderful tree is what the entire world needs.

How I live my faith

I have been a Mormon all my life and have worked with the youth for as long as I can remember. This includes many scout camping trips, weekly activities and Sunday teaching activities. I have loved this service and know that I am really the happiest when I am in the service of others. This church service to others has also included being a bishop for young single adults (ages 18-30), serving for four years in the training of newly called Mormon missionaries and teaching families in my ward about the blessings of the gospel.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Carl Nielson
We do not worship Joseph Smith. We honor him as the Prophet of the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. We worship God our Eternal Father and His Son, the risen Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that President Thomas Monson is our prophet today and that the Lord has always had prophets on the earth. Amos 3:7 in the Old Testament confirms this. Show more Show less
