Hi I'm Bruce

I'm a Utah Mormon who was born in Utah, has lived and worked in California, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and Texas.

About Me

I studied Civil Engineering and received a BS and MS in it but have never worked as a Civil Engineer. I received a PhD in Computer Science and then worked as a Mechanical Engineer for 5 years and then an Electrical Engineer for three years and I am married to a Chemical Engineering graduate. I am the father of four children (my wife introduces herself as the mother of 5 since she has to raise me as well). Right now I am a research scientist studying Diabetes for a Health Care company.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a "Mormon" family but had to gain my own testimony. At the age of 14 I was away from home on a Scout trip. We had a Sunday meeting where another young man, about 2 years older than me, said that he knew the church was true. I said in my heart that I thought it was true but I wanted to have the ability to say that I knew it was true. So after that meeting, I sincerely prayed to know if it was true and the Holy Ghost warmed my heart and at that point I knew it was true. I could not rest with that one time event but determined to read the scriptures and to have that feeling come to me again and again. It has and I am grateful for the continued strength that I have been given to have my testimony grow. I have been unemployed several times during my career and each time, when I needed help, I felt that I could pray and know that Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father were there and loved me and would help me, if I had the faith. They have helped and although I have had to move coast-to-coast, it was the right thing to do for me and my family. We also have lost three babies due to pregnancy complications and each time, when we needed the calming assurance that all will be well it has come. It was not automatic but after fasting and praying for the assurance it was given to us.

How I live my faith

I love my Mormon faith. I wake up each morning with thankfulness for the possibility of being forgiven of my sins by the grace of Jesus Christ. I pray night and morning and over each meal. I like to listen to Gospel Music and believe that those songs are also prayers to the Lord. Prayers have blessed my life. I love my current calling in the Church where I serve with my wife as Spiritual Care Volunteers at a hospital. We have the opportunity to spend a few evenings each month greeting new patients to the hospital and on Sunday providing services in the patient's rooms for them and their families and in other locations in the hospital for staff. Christ blessed the sick and using him as the ultimate example, I am able to minister to a few people each month. Previously we have worked in a temple where we helped others make covenants with Jesus Christ. We have also worked in what is called Primary where we have taught the 18 months to 3 years olds and then the next class of 3-4 year olds. Christ loved and blessed the children and we can do likewise. Being a grandparent of 11 grandchildren has taught this to me as well.
