Hi I'm Avery Nusbaum

I'm freshman at BYU, I am preparing to serve a full time mission, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am from a family of five, being the middle of two brothers. I was born in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1998, and I spent every day either outside on the beach or inside thinking about being out on the beach. I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where I stayed until I was 18 years old, finding a strong passion for swimming and architecture. Joining my high school swim team and working at the YMCA, I spent, again, full days in the sun either swimming, coaching swim teams, teaching swim lessons, or lifeguarding. After graduating high school, I traveled to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where I studied Construction Management, and attended one semester of school before deciding to serve a two year mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have had spiritual experiences I can not deny. The simple moments of looking at my beautiful angel mother and knowing I can be with her forever, or feeling the spirit of God lift my heart during sacrament meeting brings me true joy I can experience nowhere else. The power and love of God I felt during those quiet moments continually testify to me today of the truthfulness of this gospel. I have a strong testimony of the joy this gospel brings. I am a Mormon because it gives me purpose in a world that seems to be loosing the spirit it once had. I have a Heavenly Father who loves me. I am His child, and my brother, Jesus Christ came to this world and suffered for every sin that I, by myself, would be too weak to overcome. I could not do it by myself. I need Him. And because of Him, I can repent and feel His ever so sweet, simple love. I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ. I love Him for His sacrifice to Atone for my sins, and the sins for all mankind. I am a Mormon because of Jesus' perfect, pure example.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by praying and reading the scriptures. Prayer brings me closer to God, and it gives me a chance to talk directly to Him, and feel His spirit. Reading the scriptures helps me learn more of Christ and His prophets, and ways I can use the examples in the scriptures in my life. Doing both of these things invites the Spirit into my life, and helps me to choose the right in all I do.
