Hi I'm Shelby

I'm a passionate music lover, determined photographer, hobby hog, people loving, LDS convert.

About Me

I am freshman in college, 18 years old, and working on my Associate of generals. I was baptized on September 27th, 2014, and I have been working my hardest to continue being faithful and serving the Lord. Music and singing are my greatest passion! I have been singing since I was little, and through my high school's advanced choir, I made it into Honor Choir all 4 years of school, 3 of those being Co-section leader. Continuing on to two years of All-State choir one year as a Soprano I and the next as a Soprano II. I have met the most amazing people through music, many of which were also LDS, therefore, influencing my decision to learn about the church. I have been in many a musical back in my hometown, my favorites being, 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers', and 'Pirates of Penzance'! I am also in love with photography. I only have 1 year of classroom experience but I have spent much time self teaching, and I think I have a pretty good standing as an intermediate photographer. Some of my other hobbies include, crafting, scrap booking, making wall art, and sewing. One thing that has become a favorite of mine since being baptized is going out to lessons with the missionaries. Since the sister missionaries had first taught me, I was inspired by them and their will to do what is good and right. The hour long missionary experience is something that has helped my testimony grow stronger, and I am so grateful for the missionaries and how effective they truly are.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon, because it means eternal life, and even better, with my family who I can be sealed to in a temple. I chose this faith because I prayed about it, and felt the spirit touch my life, which gave me that peaceful, and truthful feeling towards the church. I love my Heavenly Father, and Savior so much, and I only want to follow the example of our brother Jesus Christ. This church has only brought me blessings, and knowing the gospel and its truths gives me a sense of peace and comfort, knowing that it is the most correct gospel on earth. I have seen Christlike lights throughout my life...many of these examples came from families, as one. Family has always been something so near and dear to my heart, and seeing LDS families that I am close with has shown me, by example, the kind of lifestyle I want for me and my future family. The pre-mortal life is one belief that I always knew was true, but didn't know that it was something I believed in until I learned about this church. I had always believed that there was a 'before' this earth, and didn't realize how big it was until meeting with the missionaries. I love the Plan of Salvation, and I know for a fact that there IS a plan and that we are in the midst of it. I am thankful for trials and hard times, because of the experiences and lessons we learn through them. I am just so grateful for how loving and caring the members of this church are, and I am so happy to be a part of this spiritual family.

How I live my faith

As a recent convert, I am working everyday to better my LDS lifestyle. As I mentioned before, going to missionary lessons is one thing that helps me to know more and gain more experience. Attending church every Sunday is something I look forward to every single week! I love being able to feel the spirit and learn more about the gospel, and see friends who share the same beliefs. I have been working on my personal scripture study habit...some days being harder than others, which is an excuse I'm trying to eliminate. BUT! Every time I read my scriptures, and study them, I am able to find a way to apply it to my life, and it helps me daily. One way that I am trying to contribute to my community is by blogging. I recently created a new blog that is specifically about my faith and service. I hope one day to serve a full time mission to further contribute, because I know how important it is to invite others to come unto Christ. Whether I serve a mission or not, I know that I can still do missionary work and service, and help others know the truths of this gospel. As of now, being the only member in my primary family, I am trying to influence my family for the better. I have become a better daughter and sister in my family because of this gospel, and I couldn't be more excited about how I can improve daily. I know that our Heavenly Father gave us families for a reason, I mean we are all practically one big family, so how could it not be important. I look forward to the day I can be sealed to my own family, and I want to always be temple worthy. I am striving to be more like our Savior each day, by helping those that are in need, and just trying to spread positivity. I only want to make others happy, and I try to do this by being a friend to anyone and everyone, while still keeping close to my Heavenly Father.
