Hi I'm Amanda

I'm from Utah. I'm studying at BYU. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 20 years old and currently attending college. I'm majoring in American Studies. I love to read, play sports, and socialize. I especially love soccer, but I broke my back playing when I was 13 and I'm out of commission permanently. I still love to play sports just for fun and I feel blessed that I can still do so and wasn't paralyzed from my injury. I work from home in customer service and I also teach piano lessons every weekend. I speak Spanish and a bit of Sign Language. I'm considering putting my schooling on hold to serve a mission after this semester. I'm loving life and it would be hard to go, but I want other people in the world to be able to experience the true happiness that I feel.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church, but don't make the mistake of thinking that I'm still in it just because that's what I grew up in and that's what's expected of me. At some point in your life, you have to come to know for yourself that the Church is true, because the standards we strive to follow can be difficult at times. Some may even call them "restrictions", but I have come to know for myself that they provide safety and are the surest path to a happy life. The world may have things that provide temporary happiness or advertise people that seem happy, but it is only through the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we can experience complete and eternal joy. Don't get me wrong, I have trials and tragedies that have occurred in my life, and I am sure that I have many more to come. But it is through the Gospel that I find peace and comfort in those hard times. I can open the Book of Mormon or other scriptural texts and find answers to questions I have. I can pray directly to God, to a loving Heavenly Father whose love for me is immeasurable and impossible to comprehend, and He hears and answers my prayers. I have felt his Spirit and have experienced an overwhelming feeling of peace during a time of sorrow. Through the Gospel, I know that my family is eternal. After this life, we will be reunited forever and, if we do our best to live His commandments, we will be reunited with our Heavenly Father for eternity as well. Through the Gospel, I find purpose in my life. I know that I am the daughter of a King. My worth is far more than my outward beauty or how popular I am. I know where I came from before this life, what my purpose is while on Earth, and I know where I am going after death. The Gospel, in short, provides me the knowledge I need to get through this life, and gives me peace in the midst of a troubled world.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through fulfilling my calling in the church, which is Family Home Evening Co-Leader for my Single Adult Ward. Our group of about 20 young adults get together every Monday night and do an activity of some that my co-leader and I plan. I also do my visiting teaching, meaning that I have 2 girls that I go and visit once a month. I share a spiritual thought with them and make sure I know what's going on in their life. I try to make sure they feel my friendship and know that they can always ask me for anything they need. I try to live my life in harmony with gospel principles such as hard work, honesty, service, and love for those around me. I am not afraid to share my beliefs through social media and I hope that my posts, pins, or tweets bring comfort or curiosity to those who see them. I am preparing to serve a mission, meaning that I want to be worthy to represent Jesus Christ on this earth and spread knowledge of His love to people around the world.
