Hi I'm Daren

I grew up on U.S. Air Force bases and love jet noise. I'm a rocket scientist. I love bike riding and basketball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a very lucky husband of an amazing and beautiful woman and father of five children that range in age from two to twenty-five. I'm also an engineer and love my work. I really enjoy being outdoors, especially bike riding and visiting historical sites. I also love to play basketball and am an avid BYU fan. I spent 7 years at BYU studying mechanical engineering. I love my country very much and have a special interest in Air Force and military history. My dad flew B-47's and B-52's. He was also a missile launch officer for the Titan II. I still watch old Air Force movies like Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart. My oldest son is a Green Beret in the U.S. Army. I know that freedom isn't free. My mom was a Registered Nurse and three of my children have gone into nursing. Another of my children has gained quite a following on YouTube teaching people how to create Apps for the Mac.

Why I am a Mormon

I am the second oldest in a family with eight children. My parents on both sides were raised in the church as were their parents. They grew up in the Oregon / Idaho area. My mom's father was a farmer. My dad's father was an insurance salesman. Both were very strong members of the Church that I looked up to a great deal. My uncles were also a great influence on me. All were highly educated and very strong members of the church serving as Bishop's and Stake Presidents. One of my Uncle's was my Stake President when I was called to serve a mission to Puerto Rico. Serving as a missionary was a highlight in my life. I spent two months learning Spanish, two months in Puerto Rico and the rest of my mission in other islands of the West Indies including Barbados, Jamaica, Haiti, St Vincent, and St Lucia. I remember listening to the Joseph Smith story as a young boy. I have always loved the story of the first vision and the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. I've read the Book of Mormon many times and have had a spiritual witness that it is a true book and that Joseph Smith was truly called of God to restore his Church to the earth. I believe it is the same gospel that Jesus taught when he was on the earth. I would recommend to anyone to read the testimony of the prophet Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon, listen to conference talks of our living prophet and apostles, and investigate the fruits of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is an amazing story, but it is true and changes lives for good throughout the world.

How I live my faith

I serve as an assistant scoutmaster for 11yr old scouts in my ward. I also serve as the Stake sports specialist. In this calling I arrange for a yearly basketball tournament for 12-18 yr olds as well as adults. I run the scoreboard, start the games, arrange for referees at the games and cheer on my son as he plays. I also home teach three families in my ward with my son. My wife and I enjoy visiting the Albuquerque Temple.
