Hi I'm Caroline Bushman

I grew up in Pittsburgh. I'm an artist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Caroline and I just graduated from high school in 2014. During high school, I took many classes that I loved including AP Literature and AP Psychology, but my favorite was AP art. I was able to develop my talents as a painter and began to sell my work during my senior year. I'm an open major at college and continue to do commissions regularly. My experience at college has been an uplifting one. My friends are great examples to me and I love to spend time with them. I'm leaving for my mission to Rosario, Argentina in two days.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because this church has given me a hope that I have found in no other place. A lot of people are a religion because their parents are that religion or because it has traditions that they like, or a number of other reasons. I am a member of this church because one day at church I was challenged to pray if God loved me. On a random afternoon, I knelt down by my bed and asked. During that prayer, I came to an understanding that I could be forgiven because Jesus Christ died for me. That experience helped me understand God's sacrifice. The atonement of Christ is not a story to make people feel better, it is a real event, a real person, a real God that died for each one of us. I am as convinced that Satan exists as much as Christ. We are faced with hard temptations and given trials that seem impossible to overcome. Not despite, but because of the reality of the adversary, I know that there is more to this life than what we can see and touch. There is a spiritual power that can heal emotional and physical wounds. I know that this is the gospel of happiness and that it applies to every person who ever lived and who ever will live. We are a family and we were put here to help each other. This church is a source of endless, unconditional love. It is a community of imperfect people trying to be our best. It is the same church that Christ himself organized while on this earth. It is the truth.

How I live my faith

For me, my faith applies to every aspect of my life. I go to church every Sunday, but I worship God every day. What I learn in church and from reading the Book of Mormon is that people are more important than anything else and that they are inherently divine. In high school when I felt bogged down with work, I would pray to have clearer eyes so that I could see who was suffering around me. When I take time to have a conversation with a friend in need in the midst of my busy life, I feel like I am truly living like Christ who is never too busy for me. I've found that my artistic ability is dependent on the presence of the spirit. I use my gift to create images to express I am preparing to leave on an 18 month mission to go teach the gospel in Argentina. I live my faith by giving love. Serving a mission isn't me trying to sell anyone anything, it's me trying to help people understand that they are loved and that they deserve all the goodness and happiness that this world has to offer no matter what mistakes they have made. What I believe is that people are good and if I am true to that belief, that means that I will obey my parents who are trying their best to give me a good life, that I will pray to God and tell him how I feel because He has feelings too, that I will remember that every person deserves kindness, that I will forgive as I have been forgiven, and that I will follow Christ's example.
