Hi I'm Waldir

I grew up in Mexico City. I played semi pro soccer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love sports, food, and traveling. When I was younger (14-17 years old) I played for two of the most recognized soccer teams in Mexico. Also, I was an avid scout. At 18, I spent two years as a voluntary missionary in Monterrey, Mexico where I met incredible people and learned how to love and serve them. After returning home, I studied at the university to become an industrial engineer; later, I moved to Utah to pursue my MBA at BYU. Above all the amazing things that have happened here at BYU, the greatest blessing was to meet my beautiful wife Jenna, in the library!

Why I am a Mormon

My mom and dad taught me the principles of the Church since I was a little boy, but I wanted to know for myself if what they were teaching me was true. I was about 12 years old when I decided to find an answer regarding the principles of the gospel as taught in the Church. I knew I needed to do my part in order to be able to receive an answer from God, so I decided to read the Book of Mormon completely. After reading the Book of Mormon I felt that I was ready to ask God. I remember perfectly that moment. I knelt down right next to my bed. I expressed to my Father in Heaven why it was so important to me to know if the Book of Mormon is true. I shared with Him that I read the Book but I was looking for a godly confirmation. Suddenly, I felt something like a fire inside my chest, growing more and more. I opened my eyes and wondered if I was creating that feeling myself, but then I put my hand on my chest and I couldn't deny it. It was something from outside touching my inside. It was peace. It was fire. I knew that it wasn't me; I was sure it was from God. From that time forward I've had my personal testimony about the truth of the Book of Mormon. I know that Joseph Smith really saw Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. This is the true Church of Jesus Christ. I'm so happy to know this.

How I live my faith

Since returning from my voluntary service in Monterrey, I've served the young men of the Church for almost 5 years. I've helped them to develop their faith in Jesus Christ and discover their potential as sons and daughters of God, and to become good citizens, sons, future husbands and fathers. I've done this by helping them define goals and plans within the established programs of the Church. Also, I've participated as a Scout master for three years by mentoring young men to become Eagle Scouts.
