Hi I'm Scott

I'm an actor, author, keynote speaker and a Mormon.

About Me

I have been in movies, television shows and commercials, was a radio personality and won an acting award at the Kennedy Center in D.C. when i was in college. I have spoken to audiences of all sizes all over the world. I admit I'm a bit of a sports fan. I play almost anything and absolutely love watching sports. Growing up in Michigan it was practically mandatory to bowl. My mom taught me to bowl when I was quite young and I've continued to play throughout my life. I don't have time for leagues or anything, but if I did...well, I probably still wouldn't do one. I'm a MASSIVE football (soccer) fan. I never played, but I fell in love with watching it while living in Spain. FC Barcelona is THE team. I've been married for 26 years and have 5 sons. My career has taken me pretty much everywhere. I used to LOVE all the travel, but after a while, especially traveling alone, the glamour has faded a bit. The family tries to go somewhere every summer together for about a week. We typically rent a house somewhere and enjoy the local tourist attractions and recreation.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother was searching for the true church of God in Michigan. We attended a lot of different Protestant churches during this time. Eventually the Mormon missionaries knocked on our door. She invited them in and after months of resistance to the Spirit, she finally began reading the Book of Mormon with a sincere intent to know. She had always been a good, Christian woman, so praying was nothing new to her. As she prayed about the Book of Mormon and the missionaries' message the Spirit touched her heart. So, we all joined the church. Being raised in the church helped me learn certain values, but did not guarantee that I would accept the gospel. I still needed to know for myself, regardless of what my Mother had felt and gone through. As a college student I finally really studied the Book of Mormon for the first time in my life and felt such a powerful spirit that I could not deny its truth. It was so strong, it made me want to go out and tell others about it as a missionary. It has completely changed my life. I was a selfish, lazy, mean-spirited punk (really) and Jesus Christ has changed my heart and my life trajectory.

How I live my faith

When I was 19 I served as a missionary in Barcelona, Spain. Those were two unbelievable years. They shaped the rest of my life and provided me a foundation of faith and commitment for which I will ever be grateful. Today, I serve as a Bishop (unpaid, volunteer Pastor, if you will) for a 'ward' of about 250 young, single adults (ages 18-31). It's a calling/job I never would have expected to be asked to do, but it has provided so many rich and wonderful spiritual experiences. Part of my calling is to counsel ward members who are seeking advice or direction in spiritual matters. We also plan and execute parties, socials, dances, sporting events, service projects and campouts on a regular basis. Nearly all of the ward members have callings of their own to fulfill; sunday school teacher, committee member, organist, etc. As a bishopric (two other men serve as my counselors) we oversee and help direct all these efforts, the majority of which are planned and carried out by the members themselves.
