Hi I'm Nelson Hyland

I grew up in Utah and Texas. I'm a college student, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently attending my first semester of college. I am the oldest of five. I am in the marching band at my school, and I am planning on being in pep band and jazz band in the future. I play trombone, I love to read, and I like playing video games.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, and I struggled as a teenager to gain my own knowledge of the truth of the gospel. I just went to church, but I really wasn't sure why or if the the church was true. By continuing to go to church, pray, and read the scriptures, I was able to gain my own testimony of the gospel. It wasn't a sudden change in my life, where suddenly I just knew everything was true. It was a gradual process over months and years, gaining testimony of certain parts of the gospel that lead me to where I am today. I remember when I knew that there was a God in heaven that loved me. I am always looking at the ground, and occasionally I will find small change like pennies and nickels, and I will pick them up. One day I went out side, and I felt I should look in a very specific spot for some reason. When I looked at this spot I found a penny lying in the dirt, and I knew that God was showing me that he knew me and loved me. I am still growing my testimony, and will continue to do so until I am called to be with my Heavenly Father again. I love that the church is growing network of people who love the Savior, and that you can connect with others with the same beliefs almost anywhere in the world. I love this gospel and everyone that is a part of it. Most importantly I love Jesus Christ and His Atonement which allows me to return to my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by faithfully attending church every Sunday, studying the scriptures, and praying often. I'm settling in to a new church environment at my college campus. Suddenly, there are only young adults that are filling many positions that are normally filled by older, experienced adults. The responsibility is a good motivator to try to do what God wants me to do.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Nelson Hyland
Through the priesthood keys of sealing, husband and wife can be sealed together for all eternity. They also have the ability to be sealed to their children, which allows families to be together forever in heaven. Even after someone has passed on to the next life, we believe that we can and will be able to see and live with them again. This life is only a temporary existence, and when we ourselves pass on, we will be greeted by those that have passed on before us. Show more Show less
