Hi I'm Garrett Kuns

I was raised in Utah. I played college basketball. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up in sports. My father was a huge sports fan and that left me entitled. I played football, basketball, and baseball. Basketball ended up being my life. After graduating high school, I continued on to play college ball at a D1 college. The experiences of college life, college sports, and trying to incorporate a social life made me who I am today. One of my more popular skills is bumping my head on everything. But with a little humor, it becomes more of a joke then anything. I work for a networking company which causes me to associate with many friends world wide. I enjoy traveling and seeing the world and also being around friends. I enjoy meeting new people and it has become a common place with my job. My family is extremely important to me as my dad is not a member of this church. I hope to influence him to one day check it out and find out for himself the truthfulness of what we believe. I always have a lot to say (as you can probably tell). I recommend to everyone to look into the church and find out for yourself its truthfulness.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was young, I was bullied. Though I was always tall, when I was little, I was skinny. Very skinny. This caused for a perfect target for bullying and I would just take it. I became used to the bullying and it seemed to affect me less and less. As time when on, I would start taking my anger and frustration out on other things. For instance my mother was a direct target of that or my schooling. I started dropping in school and just simply not caring. I realized through a good group of friends that having the standards of the church resulted in everyone being happy. I was always happy with this group of friends as we did good wholesome activities. As I continued to grow up, I realized that if I ever was the "popular" one that I would direct that in a different direction then my childhood bullies. It wasn't until my junior and senior year in high school that I realized how many people looked up to me. As I started noticing that, I would use that so called popularity to bless the lives of others. I tried to befriend everyone and talk to all those who wanted to listen. I noticed my life became happier as I focused on serving and helping others instead of looking to see what I had to gain. I am a Mormon because of the happiness it brings me and if I have that happiness, why not spread it to all the world?

How I live my faith

I am currently serving a mission in the New Mexico Farmington mission and this is an amazing experience. I have a story a bit different then others. I was not always the best of kids and about 6 months into my mission, I went home to better prepare myself to share the gospel. After 10 months of preparing, I returned to the field to share this amazing message. Prior to my mission and while I was home I served the church as the sports coordinator for my ward. I guess that calling was placed on me for my experience but it suited me well. I worked with mostly teenage young men and women as I was in a singles ward. I used my situation as a early return missionary to try and inspire others to find the faith and strength to serve or to understand that there is always room for improvement. We are always striving for self-improvement. The moment that we hit self-contentment, we have failed. My goal is along those lines and incorporating that into teaching and being an example, though sometimes difficult, is a way that I can give back to the Lord for helping straighten me and push me back into place.
