Hi I'm Lori

I grew up in Utah. My husband and I sold our home and moved to a trailer so we could go on a mission - Australia, here we come!

About Me

I'm living my second chance at romance - young love with wrinkles. I've been married three years, after 19 years as a widow. We have 10 children between us and our 30th grandchild will be born in April, 2015. I love gardening and am totally awestruck by this beautiful planet. I love the ocean and the mountains. There is beauty everywhere. I'm grateful for delicious food - what if everything tasted like lentils? We have raspberries, bacon, chocolate chip cookies. Mortality has many delights, not just 'learning experiences'. When I get weary of the scary and hard things in life, I like to spend time with young children. Their wonder and excitement about little things put everything else into perspective. I'm not much good at math, physics, chemistry, but I love the knowledge mathematicians, physicists and scientists come up with. I'm fascinated by quantum mechanics, space and time travel, etc. I really like good science fiction and fantasy. I love to read and my favorite books of all time are by J.R.R. Tolkien - "The Hobbit," "Lord of the Rings" and "The Silmarillion". They illustrate the principle that there is greatness in the most insignificant person and each can make a difference.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been taught the gospel since I was a young child and my parents were amazing examples of gospel principles - love, respect for others, kindness, empathy, integrity, and honoring commitments. Attending church made me happy, I liked what I was taught and I felt loved. When I got older I wanted to know through divine revelation that the things I had been taught were true. Through scripture study, religious classes in high school and college, prayer and trying to keep the commandments, I came to know for myself, through spiritual witnesses from the Holy Ghost, that those gospel precepts are true. For example, a Father in Heaven who knows and loves each of us individually; we have a Savior who knows and loves us each and has carried our sins, sorrows, infirmities and fears, through the atonement, and can lift that burden from us as we repent and increase our obedience; that earthly families are patterned after Heaven and are meant to be eternal, the bonds between husband and wife and their children won't be broken by death if eternal covenants are made in the temple; that obedience to God's laws brings blessings now, not just in the eternities. We are literally blessed as we pay our tithing, keep the Word of Wisdom, attend our meetings, pray, and give service to those around us. When my first husband died I was overwhelmed with grief, despair, loneliness and fear. How could I raise our children alone? I could barely get to the end of the day. One night as I prayed I was filled with reassurance that I wasn't alone. Jesus Christ was with me and knew exactly what I was going through, how I felt, because of his atonement. Not just for all mankind, but for me specifically. Since then I have known he is my dearest friend. He knows me, warts and all, and loves me still, unconditionally. That is one of the greatest blessings of my life. While his atonement is infinite and eternal for all humankind, I take it very personally.

How I live my faith

I was born into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My first calling came in high school when I was called to be the pianist in Junior Sunday School with the young children. I have enjoyed the opportunity to play the piano or organ ever since - playing for the choir, Primary, Relief Society (a meeting for women) and playing the organ in Sacrament Meeting. I have served in the nursery, taught in Primary and worked with the young women in my ward (congregation). My favorite calling has been to play the piano in Primary where the children teach and entertain me. I am anxious to get involved with family history research by recording official records that contain information about individuals and families - births, marriages, deaths, census records, etc. I love Sunday School where I am taught from the scriptures regarding gospel principles. I love the way the Book of Mormon and Bible work hand-in-hand to give us a better understanding of our Father in Heaven and our Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
