Hi I'm Barry

I was born and raised in Calgary and am affectionately know as "granparedscocks". I'm on a mission with my sweetheart and love it.

About Me

I am 77 and retired. I have 8 brothers, 8 sisters, 7 children and 7 grandkids. We (wife and grown children) have just spent 8 years building our home in eastern British Columbia(BC). I love outdoor activities with my family, my favourite is the annual Easter egg hunt with "grandkids" and other family members and 2nd is the annual "loop the lake" 10km(6.2 miles) run/ walk. I like working with and riding horse back on my Tennessee Walker. I enjoy singing in a community choir. When we lived in Calgary I sang Handel's Messiah with a city wide Mormon choir (Chorus and soloist) for many years. I also sang in the Kiwanis Music Festival during this time. I am extremely grateful for my wife, for the love and companionship we share together.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints (Mormon). Most importantly because I know that it is Christ's true church here on the earth. I know that we have a prophet of God here on the earth to advise and counsel us (Thomas S. Monson at this time) and am extremely grateful for his counsel and that of all the other leaders of our church. This counsel is readily available in church publications (Ensign, New Era, The Friend) and the church website lds.org. It is a wonderful age of technology and the church provides access to many teaching aids through the internet ie Video clips for the lessons we teach. For example in the "Come Follow Me" lessons for youth we are provided information for our Spiritual preparation. This helps us have the Spirit (Holy Ghost) with us when we prepare and teach the lesson, then we have video clips and articles from the magazines(back to 1971) that we choose to help those we teach understand the Gospel. An important concept that I have learned from my Heavenly Father (God) and our church leaders is: the trials and tribulations that we have in this life help us to grow and be stronger. Mine are all "tailor made" for me. I am grateful to my Heavenly for them(but sometimes not at the time) as I have grown from them and developed into a kinder wiser, more loving, stronger and caring person.

How I live my faith

My parents were members of the church and I have enjoyed participating in church as a small small boy and for my whole life. I love the opportunities that I've had to prepare and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have taught young children 6 year olds to 11 year olds, youth 12-18, young adults 19-30 and adults up to 90 years old. I have been a Boy Scout leader, filled many other leadership and clerical positions, most recently served as President of a small branch of the church in eastern BC. I have enjoyed all of these opportunities to serve the Lord and the people in each and every one of these positions and am Grateful to the Lord for these opportunities and for his help. (I would not have been able to do it without his help)
