Hi I'm Mark

I grew up in Holladay Utah with a family of eight children. We were very active outdoors as a family and religiously.

About Me

After high school I worked as a draftsman and attended a semester at BYU before serving a mission in New Mexico / Arizona for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My interest in agriculture increased during my service as a missionary. Upon being released from my mission I married my high school sweet heart in the Salt Lake Temple. My wife and moved to a small town and managed a farm for my father in law. In the fall I attended BYU and started my studies in agronomy. I enjoyed BYU especially learning about crop production and water relationships. I was able to graduate with a masters degree in agronomy. During my education my wife completed her degree in horticulture. We also moved to Lehi so we could manage my father in law's 450 acre / 200 cow calf operation while we completed our studies. During this time we adopted our first son from Central America. After being sealed in the Provo temple we were able to have a daughter.Times were difficult for agriculture at this time with depressed cattle and grain prices. I was blessed with full time work with the Utah Dept. of Agriculture. My career has been challenging and exciting. I got involved with GIS, GPS and population modeling of insects. This lead me to get my PhD in Botany with my thesis using drones to collect low altitude high resolution imagery for range and agriculture monitoring. My wife and I have 12 wonderful children and 28 grand children. They are our life and blessed to live close to each other.

Why I am a Mormon

As a young child my parents taught me to pray. Shortly after my baptism and confirmation into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I needed help from my Father In Heaven. I prayed with faith knowing that He knew the answer to my problem and that through the Holy Ghost He could give me the answer I was seeking. And He did! Even though my request was that of a small child He cared and Loved Me enough to show me where a lost toy would be found. Even now as a mature grand father My Father In Heaven still answers my prayers. I have read and studied the Book of Mormon and other scriptures and have received verification that they are from God. I know that the Savior has established His Kingdom on this earth as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I know that He has a prophet and apostles on the earth today to give us the direction we need to navigate through these difficult times. I know that His plan for salvation and the eternal sealing of families is to be found in His church. I am grateful for the knowledge I have of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This brings peace in my life and direction in my life.

How I live my faith

I have served in many diverse positions in the church. I have worked with the youth as an adviser and teacher; with primary age children; adults as a priesthood leader and instructor; secretary in quorums, ward and stake; in scouting; and as a home teacher. All of the assignments and callings have allowed me to be guided by the Holy Ghost as I have served my fellow saints. Currently I work with the High Priests in my ward. We have a large group because there is a retirement community in our area. This provides lots of opportunity to serve and care for others. I enjoy teaching because I feel the spirit guide me as I prepare, study, and deliver the lesson. Many times I know that I am just a voice for the spirit as the Holy Ghost directs the words I say. As a missionary it was always such a great experience to have the spirit direct and guide what I said and did. Not only has the spirit given me direction in my church service but I feel its guidance daily. I know that the many opportunities that have come to me in my work are due to the direction and guidance that I have received from the Holy Ghost. I know that my Father In Heaven watches over me and has interest in all that I and my family do. I receive great comfort and strength daily as I study the scriptures, pray, and do the best I can to keep the Savior's commandments. I know my prayers are heard and communicate with Heavenly Farther throughout the day.
