Hi I'm Mara

I grew up in southern Arizona. I have four brothers with autism. I am serving a mission in Pennsylvania. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to read. Mostly fantasy. I'm currently serving a mission in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I'm super excited to be here. After I return, I hope to go to college or enlist in the military like my father did. My mom has raised me without my dad, who passed away in August of 2010 in a car accident. She has done an amazing job. I am currently serving a mission in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from March 2015 to September 2016. It was almost a year's worth of time to get me to where I am now. I had originally planned on going to college, but the deadlines kept creeping up and I had nothing filled out. Then I thought I'll join the military, like my papa. That didn't really work out either. So I am kneeling next to my bed and saying, "Heavenly Father, I don't know what it is that I'm supposed to be doing right now with my life." A still, small voice came to me after I had finished praying and said, "The Lord needs you on a mission." I knew that I needed to start preparing then and there. As it turned out, I didn't leave for training until almost a year after I had started the application process, but I am here in Pennsylvania and being the Lord's hands and mouth.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the Church, my parents are members but it wasn't really something for my benefit. You just did it because your parents insisted. Go to church on Sunday, follow the guidelines that were placed before me. Then my dad died when I was almost 15. It was really a difficult time, but I remembered that, because of the plan of happiness that Heavenly Father laid out of us, families can be together forever. There was real comfort in knowing that. That, I think, was when I truly converted.

How I live my faith

I am serving on a mission in Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh. I am living my faith everyday, because I am able to go and teach the people what I believe in, and to help them gain their own faith in Jesus Christ. There's a lot of prayer that my companion and i do, and it's helping me to grow closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. They tell me that I am loved, and that I need to go and share that love with everyone.
