Hi I'm Susan Barnson Baum

I am a happy wife, mother of 7 and grandmother of 31. I am an adult literacy tutor. I host elaborate theme parties. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy planning and hosting fun theme parties for my family and friends. I like to read, write, travel, and hike. Doing those things with my family is even better. I collect kaleidoscopes and hats. I think learning should be a life-time pursuit. My goal is to be cheerful and uplifting to all I meet The source of all my joy is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother taught me to pray and to expect answers. From my father I learned you can leave bad habits and turn your life to one of service to God and to your fellowmen. Their example of raising my sisters and me in a loving home made it easy for me to understand the love Heavenly Father has for His children. My husband and I knew we wanted to raise our children in a loving Christ-centered home. Answers to my prayers have reaffirmed that Heavenly Father cares about my well-being. He feels the same about each of His children and wants us to have joy and to reach our full potential. Following the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ leads us to this eternal joy. Through my personal scripture study I have received insights and wisdom to strengthen my conviction that Jesus Christ has restored his church to the earth in these latter-days. He continues to direct his church through revelation to living prophets. Heavenly Father has a great plan of happiness for us. Jesus Christ is my Savior. My testimony of this gives me peace and joy even in trying times. I want to live the commandments to show my love for them.

How I live my faith

Reading is one of my passions. I enjoy reading to residents in nursing homes and to blind students at the university. I have been an adult literacy volunteer in various communities for over 15 years. Helping others read with understanding is important and gratifying. Being able to read a fairy tale or adventure story to your children opens up their imagination and also gives opportunities to discuss values. Reading allows you to study and ponder the scriptures and other great books. It also leads to better employment and self-esteem. My favorite responsibility at Church always seems to be the one I have at that present moment. I cherish my service as a temple worker. I hope the teenagers in the early morning scripture study classes I taught gained as much as I did from the class. I have enjoyed working with the children, youth, and adults in many capacities. I admit to feeling nervous and inadequate each time I am given a new opportunity to serve, but I trust the Lord will give me the strength and inspiration to accomplish whatever he asks me to do. My husband and I have recently been asked to serve our second mission as senior couple missionaries. We look forward to this with humble gratitude.
