Hi I'm Missy Garcia

I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a wife and mother. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have been working with young children in daycare and nanny settings for 9 years. I love learning about child development and am currently going to school to get my degree in early childhood education. My husband and I were married by our bishop in my grandma's backyard in 2012. In January of 2014 we had a beautiful baby girl, and in October 2014 we were sealed together as a family.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents raised me in the church. I was baptised when I was 8 and loved the gospel. When I got older, my father began falling away from the church and started smoking and drinking. I loved my father but it was very confusing seeing him do those things and be told at the same time that it is against what the church believes. When I was 18 my parents got a divorce and I fell away from the church. I tried investigating other types of religions to see what worked best for me, and after a year I made my way back to the LDS church. I couldn't find another religion that made me feel as happy and joyful and this church does. I am not a perfect Mormon, I struggle with daily scripture reading, and saying my prayers. And now that I have a daughter it seems I don't always make it to church. For a while I felt bad that my husband and I didn't get sealed in the temple first, and instead had just a civil wedding. But now that we have been through the temple and sealed together for time and all eternity with our daughter. I know that it doesn't matter if I am a perfect Mormon. All that matters is that I am trying the very best that I can. Because if I try my hardest, even if I don't make it to the end goal of being perfect, Jesus will help me get the rest of the way. He died for me to be able to become perfect through him.

How I live my faith

Right now I am a ward missionary am participating in a "how to use social media to spread the gospel" class in my ward. I am a visiting teacher and even though I don't have a very good record of actually visiting my fellow sisters, I am trying to better myself and visit more often.
